The Underwriting Consultant, Individual Life and Health provides a high level of risk assessment of individual insurance applicants for life, critical illness and medical disability lines. The position is a Senior resource for other department staff and the field, and plays a key role in assessing the work of others and updating information as required.

 

How you will create impact:
  • Assessing complex applications and policy changes (individual life & health product lines) with multiple risks and various combinations of risks that may or may not interact with each other, e.g. medical, financial, occupation, avocation, aviation, global travel, lifestyle, legal aspects (beneficiary wordings, business insurance, ownership, policy amendments, etc.).
  • Understanding and determining reinsurance impact on the risk, determining the need to refer the case to a higher authority
  • Ensure strict confidentiality is maintained with respect to clients’ personal medical history, financial status, etc.
  • Maintaining timely, accurate and professional communication/relationships with clients, our agency force as well as various medical vendors, reinsurers, and physicians, etc.
  • Provide underwriting opinions on life and living benefit claims
  • Second check senior underwriter decisions when the case exceeds their role’s release limit.
  • Assist in auditing of more junior underwriters cases in conjunction with Senior Underwriting Consults and/or Manager
  • Act as back-up for Senior Underwriting Consultants as dictated by volumes of escalated cases, projects or volume of work

  • Excellent knowledge of complex life insurance & health products

  • Proven organizational and multi-tasking abilities in a high volume and rapidly changing environment

Expected Salary Range: $71,070 -- $118,450
*The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education
