Job description

Total Group of Companies, is an industrial service company specializing in fire, rescue, medical, and HSE services. We have facilities in Red Deer, Alberta – Guelph, Ontario, and Winnipeg but also service all of Canada.  

 

We are actively seeking Safety Watch for various projects / sites across Canada – please see list below.  

 

These positions offer various shifts, rotations, and durations (typically a 10/4 schedule or Monday to Friday); some of which would require evening and weekend work. Travel/flights, accommodations and subsistence will be provided as applicable. Current projects forecasted: 

 

  • Medicine Hat, AB. (Complex)  

  • Rycroft, AB. (Terminal) 

  • Vanscoy, SK. (Terminal) 

  • Brandon, MB (Terminal) 

  • Courtright, ON. (Complex) 

  • Calgary, AB. (Construction Projects) 

 

In the short term, we have an upcoming one-month+ turnaround project in Medicine Hat for the month of May, with orientations starting on April 24-26 and the TA starting on the 28th. The schedule is planned as 12/2, 12 hr. days. OT after 44 hrs., Sub/Accommodations are provided.  

 

We are looking to put together a strong team of safety watch/specialist, EMT’s, ACP’s and rescue personnel. 

 

Under the direct supervision of the General Manager, daily task and activities include but are not limited to: 

  • Be familiar with the confined space requirements 

  • Be familiar with Air Trailers and refilling cylinders 

  • Provide support to ensure that all on-site personnel work in a safe manner and comply with Occupational Health & Safety regulatory/legislative requirements 

  • Before and during each shift, inspect the entire work area and look for potential release of flammable vapors or liquids 

  • Set up and maintain safety equipment as described in specific procedures. Inspect equipment at the beginning of each shift 

  • Participate in all pre-job meetings with an emphasis on specific worksite hazards 

  • Intervene in unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and stop the job if unsafe to continue 

  • Promote safety culture and safe work practices and take appropriate action to influence safe behaviors and to create a safe working environment 

  • Be aware of and support execution of the emergency response plans, and job specific recue plans 

  • Be prepared to operate fire extinguishers, hydrants, fixed monitors, and hose carts anytime 

  • Wearing and maintaining required personal protective equipment, ensuring that co-workers are wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment and that it is in good condition 

  • Maintain constant means of communication. Keep visual and voice contact with co-workers as much as possible 

  • Before and during each shift, inspect the entire work area and look for potential release of flammable vapors or liquids 

  • Ensure the safety of all workers that are performing working within in Confined Space 

  • Continuously monitor for atmospheric conditions 

  • Notify control room when the confined space entry has begun and when it will be complete 

  • Fill out all CSE paperwork, Log all workers and equipment 

  • Notify ERT/Control room of any emergencies within the confined space 

  • Ensure the CSE entry point is flagged off or CSE signed secured before leaving 

  • Ensure all hazards, near-misses, incidents, injuries, and illnesses are reported immediately. Address all hazards before continuing with the job. Participate in near-miss, incident, injury, and illness investigations to ensure timely completion 

  • Provide site clean-up duties when not performing Safety Watch duties

Salary: Wage will be determined in accordance with skills and experience. 
Hours: Shift work – Up to 12 hr days
