Job Description:

As an IT Asset Management Tool SME supporting the Hosting Operations & Maintenance (HOM) program for the Financial Management Services Group of the Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services (CMS), you will facilitate all aspects of IT Asset Management for the program, both operationally and for continuous improvement. This position will be part of a small IT Asset Management team and work under the leadership of the IT Asset Management Lead.  In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Utilize an asset management tool (Eracent) to scan and log all software and hardware assets of the program approximately 700 endpoints and 5000 assets.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and update asset assignments throughout asset management lifecycle.
  • Monitor, report and analyze software and hardware inventory, evaluate for entitlement compliance, N-1, End of Support/Life, and upcoming renewals.  This includes tasking and follow-up on related action items.
  • Work across teams to ensure the Assets Management toolset optimization and maintenance ensuring comprehensive agent discovery capabilities, which includes analysis of the data, as well as development of monthly and ad hoc reports to convey the analysis
  • Investigate missing assets and work to account for them within the asset management tool.
  • Collaborate with Procurement, Hosting, Infrastructure, Security, DBA, Operations and Technical teams and SME’s to implement asset management practices, processes and procedures.
  • Validate asset management tool upgrades to ensure no impacts to existing features.
  • Create and maintain all technical and process documentation related to Asset Management.
  • Present asset information to the client, such as the status of an asset, the renewal period, entitlement compliance status, where the asset is physically located, and maintenance agreement information.
  • Work with the asset management tool vendor and HOM Teams to analyze and apply tool patches, lead validation steps, and propagation through the various environments through to production.
  • Mentor and coach other asset management team members in technical areas.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
  • 5+ years of direct Asset Management experience
  • Experience with Eracent Asset Management tools (required)
  • Knowledge of SQL with ability to understand, execute and build moderately complex SQL queries.
  • Experience in Excel with Pivot tables
  • Experience managing Eracent at the Admin User level.
  • Experience in Eracent optimization and maintenance to ensure comprehensive agent discovery capabilities, which includes analysis of the data, as well as development of monthly and ad hoc reports to convey the analysis
  • Strong technical knowledge of Servers, network devices and components, operating systems (Linux/Windows), firmware, patches, databases, firewall rules and virtual machines.
  • Experience driving technical discussions with asset management tool vendors and technical teams.
  • Experience with and thorough understanding of contract and licensing terms and conditions including initial procurement of Hardware, Software, ODCs, and Support/License renewals.
  • Must have strong technical and organizational skills to inventory, track, and manage all SW and HW assets in a data center context.
  • Extremely high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with software entitlement management.
  • Experience with vendor interface and management.
  • Experience with COTS Product lifecycle management
  • Experience with complex licensing models from Oracle and IBM.
  • Wired towards process improvement and automation such that manual effort and dependence on distributed asset owners can be reduced.
  • Certified Software Asset Management (CSAM) certification or equivalent
  • Certified Hardware Asset Management Professional (CHAMP) certification or equivalent
  • Experience using the ServiceNow platform

Clearance: Requires ability to pass a CMS background check and meet the residency requirement for having resided in the US at least (3) three out of the last (5) five years.

The likely salary range for this position is $73,950 - $100,050. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
