UNICEF USA YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE  

VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION 

2025-2026 

 

ABOUT THIS ROLE 

UNICEF USA’s Youth Representatives (ages 14-24) are young leaders who serve as child rights advocates who support UNICEF’s work in a regional capacity. Youth Representatives help UNICEF USA grow our community of supporters and advance local child rights action through the Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) and other municipal partnerships (in select cities), while also activating the UNICEF Clubs network. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • COMMUNITY BUILDING: Work closely with a UNICEF USA staff member and other youth representatives in your region to build community with UNICEF clubs. Help recruit and retain clubs through relationship building and ongoing engagement. Activate clubs on civic learning and advocacy by leading sessions during club meetups.
  • CONTENT DESIGN & TRAINING: Participate in and help champion local trainings, civic engagement events and local advocacy actions, including building out our child rights training work. Receive training from UNICEF professionals on child rights, community building, and grassroots advocacy.
  • CFCI OUTREACH (IN REVELANT MARKETS): If in a CFCI city, collaborate with city partners on priority areas of importance to children, young people and local stakeholders.
  • INFLUENCING AND RELATIONSHIP BUILDING: Represent the voice of youth in media appearances and local events.

COMMITMENT:  

  • Serve a 10-month term from August 1, 2025-May 29, 2026
    • Youth Representatives that are interested in serving more than one term will have the opportunity to reapply for a returner role in the following recruitment cycle
  • 8-12 hours of volunteer time per month, mostly during weekday evenings and weekends in a largely virtual setting
    • Youth Representatives must be available for monthly meetings held on Wednesdays, 7-8:30PM EST
    • Throughout each week, you should be setting aside 2-3 hours aside to do UNICEF USA work and have check-ins with your relationship manager
    • For the month of August, Youth Representatives must be available for onboarding virtual training during the following times:
  • Wednesday, August 6 @ 7:30-8:30PM EST
  • Saturday, August 16 @ 12-4PM EST
  • Sunday, August 17 @ 12-4PM EST
  • Tuesday, August 26 @ 7:30-8:30PM EST

Please note that this year we will not be hiring for the Midwest region, which includes: Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky. Thank you for your understanding.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • All applicants must be between the ages of 14-24 and live in the U.S.
    • *Students studying abroad at any point during the term are not eligible to participate
  • Geographic proximity to the metro area in which you plan to serve 
  • Can meet the time commitment and expectations 
  • Interest in community organizing, advocacy, youth-led action and child rights
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and be passionate about making an impact in your local community
  • Demonstrate a capacity to learn and utilize UUSA's virtual tools including Outlook, Slack, Zoom and Box
  • Members will need reliable access to the internet and a device to participate in virtual meetings.
