Our mission is to help unlock the world’s potential by optimising the way we teach and learn. With a unique blend of technology and creativity, we bring learning to life, making complex concepts simple and accessible to students, educators, and parents alike.

We’re a team driven by our core values: a deep-rooted passion for learning, a relentless pursuit of quality at speed, humility in our growth, a commitment to pushing boundaries, empowering others fearlessly and championing the needs of our customers. Our culture is built on these values, ensuring we stay agile, innovative and empathetic to the evolving needs of the education community.

At Atomi, you’ll be encouraged to think creatively, work collaboratively and contribute to a mission where every piece of work is a step towards realising our collective potential in classrooms and beyond.

The opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced and passionate Staff Platform Engineer to take on the challenges of scaling and optimising our platform infrastructure.

In this role, you’ll be joining our growing Engineering team as a technical leader, driving architectural decisions and ensuring reliability, security, and efficiency across our systems.
We are searching for someone who can lead our platform strategy and enable our feature teams through a modern, developer-friendly infrastructure. As our company evolves beyond its early startup phases, you'll play a key role in establishing scalable platform capabilities that accelerate delivery while maintaining reliability and security.
You'll build systems and tools that empower engineers across Atomi, implement infrastructure-as-code practices, enhance observability, and create automated pipelines that support our technology evolution, from integrating AI capabilities into our educational platform to advancing our architecture toward TypeScript, NextJS, and NestJS ecosystems.

What you'll do
  • Build and maintain scalable infrastructure and developer tools that enable feature teams to ship with confidence
  • Design and implement reliable CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code solutions, and observability systems
  • Partner with feature squads to understand their platform needs and develop solutions that accelerate their delivery
  • Establish best practices for cloud infrastructure, security, and operational excellence across Atomi
  • Mentor engineers across teams on infrastructure, deployment strategies, and platform capabilities
  • Champion resilient architecture, performance optimisation, and security standards throughout the engineering organisation
  • Drive continuous improvement in our development workflow through automation and self-service platform capabilities

  • What you'll bring
  • Expertise in designing and implementing cloud-native infrastructure and developer platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services and architecture patterns for secure, scalable applications
  • Extensive experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS)
  • Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) and automated deployment pipelines
  • Experience implementing observability solutions including monitoring, logging, and alerting (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)
  • A security-first mindset with knowledge of cloud security best practices and compliance requirements
  • Ability to balance immediate engineering needs with long-term platform health
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to solving complex technical challenges
  • Proven track record of mentoring engineers and elevating technical practices across teams
  • Comfort working in evolving environments and transforming complex systems incrementally
