Job description

Vee Healthtek is looking for a talented and experienced Director, Lead Data Scientist who will serve as a steward & technical leader for our data-led initiatives to transform healthcare. There is no place where data plays a more critical and impactful role than in healthcare!

The data science leadership role in healthcare requires one to reimagine the use of data in how we can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical and administrative tasks. The job requires working closely with subject matter experts who provide insight into the why. At the same time, it requires one to critically look at how the work gets done and if the work should be done the way it is imagined to be by the experts. To date, there has not been enough work done to look at how and why healthcare administrative tasks are done the way they are done. You will work with various business leaders helping them identify the problems and possible solutions.

You will work closely with business development leaders, subject matter experts, client thought leaders, other data scientists, statisticians and technologists to assist in delivering insights and patterns that will become a part of standard operating procedures for our product and services. You will be a part of our production innovation and engineering team engaging in projects and programs of high priority on an ongoing basis. You will help the team identify and prioritize the most relevant use cases for the business. You will also lead your own skunkworks to discover insights that would lead to creating new data led technology projects for our delivery teams and clients. Your experience in guiding an extended team in building appropriate models and establishing relationships that are not obvious in the data would be valuable in this job.

You will build advanced data intelligence insights drawing upon statistical modeling and data techniques including those from AI, ML, NLP and LLM for problems that span robotic automation, computer vision, speech recognition, data led insights etc.

Your ability to articulate and communicate with clarity of content and idea is critical. You should have a good mix of mathematical, statistical, programming and computer science skills that would be immensely helpful. However, you are not expected to have any programming skills beyond those required to help you build models using R, Python etc. A background in healthcare, revenue cycle management, and finance is a must.

This role reports to the Chief Digital Transformation Officer.

Responsibilities

Working with the client service teams, internal operations teams, and product team to advance approaches that best utilize our experience and insights to create valuable solutions for us and our clients.
Design, develop and implement methodologies and data science solutions using financial data to address operational and client needs.
Effectively use machine learning, statistics, financial and medical expertise to create rigorous data-based technology solutions.
Design and develop innovative technologies and solutions to advance our capability in our services for healthcare using data led insights.
Collaborate on software projects with engineers, provide analytical guidance and contribute to improving the underlying data architecture.

Requirements

Must have at least 10+ data science experience in a technology centric business with 5+ years leading data led initiatives.
An advanced degree in Business or Engineering with a background in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Math or any combination thereof.
Expertise in leveraging advanced techniques in areas such as deep learning, NLP, classification, predictive modeling, etc.
Expertise in advanced data science and computational concepts and techniques, machine learning, statistical analysis, and stochastic optimization.
Expertise in identifying problems that could benefit using data science methods, working with client and internal leaders.
Experience in breaking down the identified problems into smaller projects that deliver increasing yields.
Programming abilities in one high level language, preferably Python and R.
Strong project management abilities, ideally using agile methodologies
Experience with big data – data warehouses, data lakes, and related technologies.
Strong communication, project management and technical leadership skills with an enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary environment.
Experience with healthcare data (Electronic Health Records, claims data) is required.
Knowledge of principles of medical economics, clinical data-based decision systems, predictive modeling of health data from clinical, financial and personal sources would be useful.
Software development experience is a plus.
