Responsibilities
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Implements and monitors TransLink’s sustainability policy and facilitates achievement of related goals across the enterprise. Supports the Director in the development and implementation of sustainability programs, plans, strategies and policies.
Key Accountabilities
Develops, manages, and maintains enterprise-wide sustainability policies and programs and leads the development of comprehensive and complex sustainability projects while ensuring enterprise-wide buy-in and support. Supports the Director in the development and implementation of Organization’s mandate related to multi-year sustainability strategies.
Leads the monitoring and reporting of sustainability performance indicators, ensuring compliance with relevant policies, reporting requirements and regulations. Identifies trends and areas of opportunity or improvement, alerting Director to critical issues. Promotes, advises and educates internal and external stakeholders on program status, across the enterprise; facilitates sessions and workshops on the sustainability program.
Provides subject matter expertise to both internal stakeholders and external agencies by contributing to consistent application of sustainability Program across all levels of the organization and providing specialized advice to other local and regional public sector organizations on several sustainability projects that have a perceptible impact.
Manages the collection, analysis and reporting of sustainability data, and prepares content for internal and external reports to address TransLink Board and Executive requirements. Supports the Director in the development of reports and delivery of presentations to the Executive and the Board regarding the sustainability program. Provides input on sustainability issues for the enterprise and operating companies based on data gathering and analysis.
Manages external consultants, providing work direction and monitoring contract compliance and internal relationships with project teams, providing project-related guidance and work direction, and providing input to performance management. Liaises with key external stakeholders, including regulators at the municipal and provincial level to monitor government policy and ensure regulatory compliance.
Actively involves in various committees both internal and external on a periodic basis, such as Environmental Management Working Group, Enterprise Resilience Working Group and TransLink Tomorrow to discuss sustainability projects, sharing ideas, and providing input on various sustainability issues. Leads the environmental regulatory reporting for the province to ensure compliance towards BC Recycling Regulations and BC Renewable and Low Carbon Fuel Regulations.
Researches and analyzes trends and best practices in sustainability, including low carbon fleet, carbon offset and energy management programs. Collaborates with enterprise Communications and Marketing Department to develop and implement strategies for communications outreach.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The requirements for this job are acquired through undergraduate degree in a business or sustainability discipline plus six (6) years of corporate sustainability experience in preferably a large, complex organization.
Other Requirements
Advanced knowledge of sustainability values, issues, theories, principles, and practices, and sustainability management strategies, especially as they pertain to the transportation sector.
Advanced knowledge of carbon and energy management, including data collection and analysis, monitoring and targeting, and designing and implementing behavior change programs.
Solid business acumen with emphasis on business strategy, management systems, policy development, organization culture, change management and innovation.
Advanced analytical and problem solving skills, including knowledge of statistical principles and methods, to analyze data and derive conclusions and recommendations from that data.
Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to provide specialized expertise, advice, guidance and to influence all levels of the organization.
Solid knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
Other Information
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.
This is a nine-month, full-time temporary position.
Required
Candidates will not be required to fulfill all Key Accountabilities listed above due to the temporary, nine-month nature of this position. They will support the Director in the development and implementation of the Organization’s mandate, and key projects and initiatives currently underway:
- Develop a multi-year Sustainability Framework and Strategy;
- Develop an enterprise-wide Resilience Framework; and,
- Executing the TransLink Climate Action Plan Year 3 work items.
- Ensuring the development of the 2025 annual Accountability Report and 2025 Green Bond Impact Report.
The Director may assign specific Key Accountabilities as and when required.
Work Schedule
37.5 hours per week.
This is a full-time temporary position with an end date of 09/17/2025.
Work Designation
Remote
This positions offers the ability to work predominately in a remote capacity within B.C. The business will request onsite presence at times for operational reasons.
Rate of Pay
Salary $89,600 - $134,400 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
