Responsibilities
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Solution Architect aligns technical solutions with TransLink enterprise’s IT strategy, plans and business goals by ensuring technical solutions meet the functional and non-functional requirements within the guidance of BTS Enterprise Architecture strategies, roadmaps, architectures and/or programs.
Key Accountabilities
Designs and implements customized technical solutions for clients by focusing on solution-level decisions and analysis of their impact on the overall business goals and outcomes. Assures solutions not only are a fit for the specific purpose but also closely align with standards and Enterprise Architect direction or guidelines for technology solutions.
Provides an advanced level of expertise in managing activities that take place during solution ideation, solution design, and solution implementation. Accountable for production and governance approval of Solution Design Documents, ensuring alignment to TransLink’s Enterprise Architecture and the overarching IT strategy through regular collaboration with stakeholders.
Directly supports in the development of a solutions architecture program, including departmental roadmaps and programs for solutions architecture. The Solution Architect will determine and communicate the essential elements of the overall solution to ensure the business implications of a design can be assessed. Assists BTS Enterprise Architecture in the establishment of application architectures and the adoption of standards.
Reviews business context for solutions to company challenges, as well as defining the lifecycle and requirements for the solution, recommending potential options (which may include RFIs, RFPs, POSs/POVs or prototype development), selecting the most optimal option, and developing an implementation roadmap for the selected solution.
Directs the identification and recommendation of appropriate solutions, upgrades, replacements, or decommissioning options incorporating business and technology productivity, usability, and total cost of ownership. Develops and executes solutions which further reduce the percentage of time spent on reactive work.
Champions a structured approach to business application solutions. Assures solutions not only are a fit for the specific purpose but also closely align with the standard guidelines of technology solutions. Influences changes to standards when necessary.
Communicates the solution to the stakeholders and collaborates and coordinates with existing domain architects in the formalization and adoption of IT standards and procedures.
Supports the implementation of architectural aspects for all application projects in peer IT programs. Assists the Strategic Planning & Governance team on solutions management and timing of financial spend for application solutions.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The requirements for this job are acquired through a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field plus seven (7) years of progressive experience in a client-facing Solution Architect role ideally within IT services.
Other Requirements
Advanced knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques pertaining to Solution Architect, with demonstrated ability to communicate the complexities of technical programs (e.g. Microsoft Azure, e.g. VMs, Storage, AKS, App Service, Service Bus, etc. Design patterns, Microservices & Containerization, Microsoft .NET, SQL database, Cybersecurity, Web frameworks and other emerging technologies i.e., Artificial Intelligence)
Advanced knowledge of coaching and mentoring teams on Solution Architect concepts and methodology.
Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to provide specialized guidance and expertise to managers, staff and customers, and to develop and manage critical relationships at all levels in the enterprise.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to handle conflict resolution, facilitating discussion and alternatives of different approaches.
Solid leadership skills with ability to manage and influence direct or indirect reporting staff and to provide specialized guidance and expertise to all levels of the organization.
Solid planning, organization, and time management skills with strong ability to organize competing priorities
Industry recognized certifications are assets.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.
Work Schedule
37.5 hours per week.
This is a full-time temporary position with an expected end date of 09/30/2026.
Work Designation
Remote
This positions offers the ability to work predominately in a remote capacity within B.C. The business will request onsite presence at times for operational reasons.
Rate of Pay
Salary $107,200 - $160,800 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
The Total Compensation Package includes Extended Health, Transit Pass and enrollment in the Public Service Pension Plan upon eligibility.
