Background: McGill’s School of Social Work has entered into an agreement with the Cree School Board to deliver an online Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) pilot program in Eeyou Istchee. The School of Social Work is seeking a Course Developer – Curriculum to develop and adapt a course to an online format, specifically adapted to Indigenous realities (Cree specific is ideal) and working closely with the Director, Indigenous Access McGill and McGill Online Instructional Design team/program.

Position summary: Working from an existing outline, your responsibilities will include reviewing and developing and content i.e.,  lectures, student activities and course materials for the Public Social Services in Canada course. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Director, Indigenous Access McGill and an online instructional designer to review the materials developed and discuss best online practices for course delivery. The curriculum for this course must be adapted to include Indigenous Peoples' realities , with a particular emphasis on Cree cultural ways of knowing, doing and being. You will be expected to commit 3-7 hours per week.

This is a short-term, part-time contract that will end in Fall 2025. The position is remote and can be completed from home.

Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in Social Work or field related to subject matter i.e. Public Policy, Governance
  • Demonstrated practical application of, and/or teaching/research experience in:
    • creation and delivery of current public health and social services in Canada and Québec.
    • access to (and delivery of) public social services by/to the public, community or private sector.
    • major social services, considering (a) policy framework (b) service delivery systems, and (c) challenges to the delivery of these services and their link to social rights and social justice.
    • analysis of the power relations between citizens, Indigenous communities and the government and services.
  • Cultural competency and understanding the effects of colonization, historical trauma, and current health inequities faced among Indigenous Peoples

Additional qualifications:
·Awareness of culturally relevant resources for Indigenous Peoples
·Understanding of policy gaps to support students to navigate the Canadian public social service system
·A strong commitment to advancing the calls for reconciliation through education and public service. This includes recognizing the importance of decolonizing education and providing opportunities for Indigenous self-determination and governance in public social services.
·Experience in curriculum development and teaching at the post-secondary level.
