General Description: 

The Associate Director of Commercial Supply Planning plays a critical role in managing global supply chain operations for small molecule pharmaceutical products. This position is responsible for developing and executing end-to-end material and capacity planning strategies to ensure consistent global supply, mitigate risks, and align with business objectives. The role requires a strategic mindset, expertise in supply planning tools, and experience managing both internal and external manufacturing networks.

The candidate will lead the monthly Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process, integrating cross-functional inputs to drive data-driven decision-making. As a subject matter expert in SAP ERP and advanced planning systems, this individual will drive process improvements, enhance supply planning capabilities, and ensure compliance with global regulatory requirements.

Success in this role requires strong analytical capabilities, stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to manage complex global operations within a GxP environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Supply Planning & Operational Execution:

  • Lead commercial supply planning for small molecule products, ensuring product availability while optimizing inventory levels.
  • Develop and execute global network planning strategies, including demand/supply forecasting and scenario planning.
  • Act as the Supply Chain representative on Launch Readiness Teams, ensuring seamless market entry for new products.
  • Collaborate with internal and external manufacturing partners to manage capacity planning and ensure efficient production scheduling.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate supply chain risks, including potential supply disruptions and regulatory compliance challenges.
  • Monitor production schedules, schedule adherence, and implement course corrections as needed.
  • Optimize supply strategies to minimize excess & obsolescence (E&O) risks while maintaining supply continuity.

Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) & Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Lead monthly S&OP regional meetings, consolidating input from Demand Planning, Commercial, Finance, and Manufacturing.
  • Align supply planning with commercial forecasts, financial objectives, and long-term strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Ensure integration of key performance indicators (KPIs) in supply planning processes to drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Quality, Regulatory, and Logistics teams to ensure end-to-end supply chain compliance and efficiency.

Technology & Process Improvement:

  • Serve as a supply chain subject matter expert (SME) and super user for SAP S4/Hana ERP and Integrated Business Planning (IBP) systems.
  • Drive the implementation and optimization of advanced planning tools to enhance supply chain efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and compliance in planning activities.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supply chain agility and responsiveness.

Core Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Commercial Supply Planning Expertise: Proven ability to develop and execute demand/supply planning strategies, optimize inventory levels, and lead the S&OP process to drive business alignment.
  • Pharmaceutical Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of global pharmaceutical regulatory requirements (e.g., cGMP, GDP) and ability to ensure compliance in supply chain operations.
  • Deviation & CAPA Management: Experience in investigating deviations, implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and ensuring continuous compliance in a regulated environment.
  • SAP & Advanced Planning Systems: Deep expertise in SAP ERP, IBP, and advanced planning tool system design, implementation, and optimization to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration & Leadership: Ability to engage and align stakeholders across Commercial, Finance, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to drive supply chain excellence.
  • Adaptability & Change Management: Demonstrated success in leading change initiatives, improving processes, and navigating dynamic business environments.
  • Effective Communication & Influence: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to convey supply chain strategies, present recommendations, and influence senior leadership.
  • Project & Risk Management: Expertise in project execution, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies to ensure supply continuity and minimize disruptions.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: Commitment to driving operational excellence through innovation, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Education Required:

Bachelor or Master Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or similar education required.

8+ years progressive experience in Supply Chain preferably within the biotech, pharmaceutical, CRO, industry.

Technical SkillsMaster-level expertise in Excel and PowerPoint, with advanced skills in data modeling, automation, and visualization; proficiency in other Microsoft Office application, strong knowledge of ERP Systems and Advanced Planning Tool, Experience with Power BI, ThinkCell, and data visualization tools.

Other Qualifications: Due to the global nature of the role, early morning or evening meetings may be required.

Travel:  Up to 20% as required for business needs

Salary Range: $134,500.00 - $184,500.00 annually

Actual compensation packages are determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location. Packages may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor. The recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for a preferred location during the hiring process.  Please note that the listed range reflects the base salary or hourly range only. Non-Commercial roles are eligible to participate in the annual bonus plan, and Commercial roles are eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
