Summary of Position

The Managing Editor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and quality of SANS coursebooks. You will lead a team of book processors and copyeditors, providing training and answering questions, while maintaining quality control standards. Your role is essential in providing our authors with a positive update experience and ensuring our students receive well-crafted and error-free books.

 

Key Responsibilities

Leadership:

· Supervise and mentor a team of courseware specialists and copyeditors, providing clear guidance, feedback, and training to ensure their professional development and adherence to quality standards.

· Analyze and address any production issues, taking corrective action as necessary.

Quality Assurance:

· Implement and maintain rigorous quality control processes to ensure all books meet the highest standards, including grammar, spelling, formatting, and overall content accuracy.

Process Improvement:

· Evaluate and improve existing workflows to increase efficiency and productivity. Identify opportunities for automation and implementation of relevant tools or software.

· Assist the Director of Courseware Management in identifying and implementing new standards.

Project Management:

· Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, managing schedules, priorities, and resources to meet deadlines.

Communication:

· Collaborate and provide constructive feedback with authors, book processors, copyeditors, and other cross-functional teams.

 

Basic Qualifications

· Exceptional attention to detail and a strong understanding of grammar, punctuation, and style guides

· Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

· Prior copyediting experience

 

Preferred Qualifications

· 5+ years of experience in editing, publishing, or managing content production

· Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Publishing, or a related field

 

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to the Director of Courseware Management.

This position has direct reports, including courseware specialists and copyeditors.

 

Work Environment

This is a remote position, with minimal travel.

The base salary range for this position is between $65,000, and $75,000. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location and relevant experience, education, certifications, and years of experience. There is no guarantee an offer will be at the top of the posted range based on the salary analysis.
