Job description

The Scope
FSC is responsible for setting requirements for responsible forest management and chain of custody all over the world.
While cornerstone rules are set internationally, many of FSC requirements need local adaptation, resulting in various normative documents produced that are applicable for a given country or region.

One of such locally adapted documents are Risk Assessments, essential for the EUDR implementation and integrity. FSC Risk Assessments follow a set of comprehensive indicators and robust methodology to set the common framework for the risk used across FSC system. This is fundamental for the system integrity.

However, with EUDR introducing the obligation to perform risk assessments by all operators, there is a risk that multiple entities, including FSC and other certification schemes will be arriving at their own interpretations of risks.
To prevent that, and to provide robust and credible risk assessments that are aligned across various credible certification schemes and organizations, we are part of RIA - Risk Information Alliance.

Through this work you will have the opportunity to participate in a unique undertaking on a global scale, directly supporting the implementation and integrity of ground-breaking legislations (such as EUDR). We are looking forward to you joining us!
Main Roles & Responsibilities
Your role will be to coordinate RIA-related contributions within FSC, as well as join the management team of RIA by contributing to project management and day-to-day operations together with other members appointed by RIA Steering Committee.
  • Ensure smooth and instant information flow between RIA and internal teams within FSC, to achieve effectiveness and transparency.
  • Coordinate the contribution to RIA activities by various internal experts within FSC, by liaising with content leads, supervisors, FSC management and FSC Network to ensure relevant resources are secured (e.g. technical expertise related to risk assessment, communications, legal or fundraising teams) and the RIA activities are well integrated in the existing FSC process flows.
  • Liaise with CR program on the technical scope of the requirements in the RIA joint methodology and indicators.
  • Coordinate between FSC (P&P unit) and the RIA decision making panel for Risk Assessments developed by RIA members.
  • Develop and maintain project plan, including risk assessment and stakeholder mapping, for FSC contributions to RIA.
  • Contribute to RIA day-to-day management in coordination/project management role as agreed with RIA members.
  • Coordinate FSC stakeholder engagement related to RIA, including individual exchanges with external entities, as well as activities related to cross-scheme consultations on developed contents.
  • Coordinate alignment between FSC and RIA priority countries for risk assessments to ensure effectiveness and quality resourcing.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for RIA in FSC.
  • Participate in FSC internal competence and accreditation program.
  • Other duties assigned by the Unit Directors.
