Job description

Vannevar Labs supports people on the front lines by building tools that deter and de-escalate conflict with America's adversaries. We build software and hardware for this mission that enable our customers to maintain maritime vigilance, disrupt misinformation, and collect non-traditional intelligence. In strategic competition, the intelligence and actions that shape conflict occur well before war itself. We build tools to win this fight now.

This mission has become urgent. The US and our allies are fighting a war of deterrence with woefully outdated technology. As a team, we believe in public service and that our democracy and government improve only if we put serious, collective effort into improving them, including the technology our government uses.

Since our founding in 2019, we have grown to support a wide range of missions and capabilities across all U.S. service branches, multiple combatant commands, partner nations, and the intelligence community. We have been profitable since 2021, and are backed by investors including General Catalyst, DFJ Growth, Point72, Costanoa, and Felicis.

Company

Our mission is to be the technology backbone for strategic competition against China. These missions – including intelligence, information operations, special activities, perception management, and deception – are happening today and their success or failure will determine if we go to war tomorrow.

We’ve been on the front lines of these missions since 2019, and have grown to support a wide range of missions across all US service branches, multiple combatant commands, partner nations, interagency stakeholders, and the intelligence community. We deploy both hardware and software products that span collection, planning / assessments, and effects.

We’ve grown from $3M in run-rate revenue in 2021 to $80M in run-rate revenue today. We’ve been profitable since 2022 and have raised $91M in venture capital funding through Series B, so we don’t plan to raise again. We're valued at $1.5B as of 2025.

About the role

This role will be the 0-to-1 owner for high ops priorities and other special projects for the executive leadership team. It will be shaped depending on your skillset. Over the last few years, we’ve experienced a lot of growth, >25xing our revenue and ~5xing our customer base. You will be critical to building the foundation needed to support this growth.

What you'll do

  • Provide comprehensive support to the cofounders’ top priorities, bringing extra firepower to strategy-setting, board engagement, investor relations, internal communications, corporate development, and people development
  • Build and refine materials for company-wide engagement, such as All Hands, announcements, strategy offsites, and progress reviews
  • Prepare and edit correspondence, communications, presentations, and other documents on behalf of the executive team
  • Own special projects, such as support to executive recruiting, organizational culture, industrial security strategy, and hardware manufacturing operations, with expert support and resources as needed
  • Contribute to team effort by performing related project management tasks as needed, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to jump into a variety of problem-solving efforts

What we look for

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably within the national security, defense, technology, or consulting (on defense-oriented projects)
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Past exposure to working with C-level executives and stakeholders (or equivalents at public / non-profit organizations)
  • Proven track record of delivering cross-functional outcomes, with relentlessness and grit when faced with roadblocks
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships and comfort with contributing own perspectives / opinions into discussions

What we offer

Vannevar’s compensation philosophy is to pay top-of-market, with annual benchmarking to ensure we remain competitive. The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $170,000 cash + performance-based bonus + equity + 401K match. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, relevant education, and/or training.

On equity, our valuation has tripled from ~$500M in 2022 to $1.5B in October 2024; with our defense prime aspirations, we hope to 15x this. We also recently did our first employee secondary around for people at Vannevar >3 years so they had the option to liquidate some of their equity, and hope to facilitate this every 1-2 years.

Other notable benefits include:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 100% remote first culture. You can work from anywhere in the US and all full-time employees have WeWork access, with dedicated Vannevar offices in DC, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Honolulu
  • Unlimited PTO including competitive vacation and holiday schedules
  • Lifestyle stipends - monthly mental health, wellness & fitness stipend, in-home office setup stipend and family planning assistance
  • Salary top-up during military reserve duty
  • Fully paid parental leave
  • Child and pet care reimbursement during travel
