Job description

YOUR MISSION:  Build models and systems that optimize the roadside assistance experience for service providers and drivers in need. Your work will involve geospatial analytics, A/B experimentation, and algorithm/model development to enhance our industry-leading approaches to pricing and marketplace optimization. 

As a data scientist at Urgently, you’ll work at the intersection of Product, Data Engineering, and Operations, giving you access to a constant stream of impactful projects. Your ability to identify shortcomings in our product, craft thoughtful solutions, and rigorously measure results will shape the future of our mobility platform.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR: 

Build best-in-class predictive models, decision tools, and geospatial intelligence systems 

  • Identify issues and recommend testable improvements to different aspects of the business 

  • Research & Development in transportation/roadside industries 

  • Prioritize and balance the data science work and the speed to market for new improvements 

Develop Proof-of-Concept ideas using data, data science and human behavior to improve our business processes 

  • Work with data engineering and infrastructure to get the data you need 

  • Develop algorithms and pipelines, then deploy them into production 

  • Rigorously measure impact using A/B testing and other methods 

Use effective project and product planning technique to distill user requirements into manageable components 

  • Be a self-starter and manager 

  • Able to work independently and know when to reach out to stakeholders and teams for clarification or help 

  • Work closely with manager and team to align work with business expectations 

  • Communicate findings and quantify the improvements 

  • Success metric = Everyone in the business should see what  

WHO YOU ARE: 

You have a Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) in a STEM or related quantitative field (economics, social sciences, finance) and extensive AWS experience (AWS Machine Learning Certificate or on-the-job experience). 

  • You have proven 2-4 years of experience in using statistical and/or predictive modeling to build algorithms that will move human behavior in a desired direction and have conducted A/B experiments. You have applied causal inference to understand the cause and effect of a multivariate system. You are obsessed with data and want to know how things work under the hood.  

You are well-rounded from a technical perspective and are comfortable communicating ideas/models/results with a range of stakeholders. 

  • You are a technical expert in data science and programming. You can express your ideas by building algorithms, data analysis and visualization. You are highly curious and demonstrate strong accountability, as you will be responsible for owning and deploying models into production.  

You have proven experience in working with large datasets in a Cloud environment.  

  • You worked with data in its many forms such as Redshift/Postgres/MySQL or NoSQL databases in structured and unstructured formats. You have worked with large datasets in streaming format, large tables or flat files and have used big data tools (i.e. SageMaker, DynamoDB, Glue) in AWS.  

You are adept at coding and developing prototypes.  

  • You have built machine learning models in Python, Jupyter Notebooks, AWS Sagemaker, Lambda, Airflow or related technology. You enjoy learning new concepts and applying new techniques to solve challenges.  

Ideally you have previous experience in transportation, supply & demand and/or logistic field.  

  • You worked in logistics, supply chain and/or location-based fields and know how to analyze time series and location data. You understand the nuances of geospatial data.  

You have proven knowledge of modeling techniques such the development pipeline looks like and how it solves their issues as classification/regression, spatial analysis, time series analysis.  

  • You have used geo-location time series & free-form text data to optimize networks in the mobility space.  

You have designed A/B experiments and can evaluate its effectiveness with statistical hypothesis testing and analysis.  

  • You have guided business stakeholders to design improvements to the business and quantify the impact.  

You have outstanding written and verbal communication skills.  

  • You can effectively communicate a complex data science concept simply in writing and in meetings. Your writing & presentations can move an audience to a clear decision. 
     

THE NITTY GRITTY: 

  • Location = Great news!  This position is remote and you have the option of working from anywhere in the U.S.!  

  • Manager = You’ll report to Chief Data Officer 

  • Compensation = The base salary range for this position is $95,000 - $125,000. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

We also offer three different medical plans to choose from, two dental plans, a vision plan, and other valuable benefits. You’ll have 12 holidays off and unlimited paid time off.  We match 100% on the first 3% you contribute to our 401(k)and then 50% of the next 2% you contribute.
