Job description

The future of social justice work is multi-entity.  Over the last four years, New Left Accelerator (NLA), our 501(c)(4) and The Capacity Shop (TCS), our separate but affiliated 501(c)(3), have become leading capacity-building providers serving the complex needs of multi-entity organizations.

Today’s most effective power-building organizations are using multi-entity structures – more than 501(c)3s, often 501(C)(4)s, PACs, for-profit corporate structures – to build power, increase their impact, and win.  As progressive movements and state ecosystems scale this approach, the need for specialized support grows. We meet this growing need by collaborating with multi-entity experts to develop the financial, operational, and compliance infrastructure that enables organizations to do bold work safely. To learn more about our values and approach to this work, read our core values and Theory of Change.

NLA runs three technical assistance programs that bring leading multi-entity experts and innovative leaders together to rethink their strategy, structure and capacity so they can  maximize impact and do bold work in compliance with the law.

TCS is building the movement's first  operations focused resource center and knowledge hub, which will set new standards for the growing field of multi-entity operations and democratize access to operations-focused training, tools and resources.

The Role

Reporting to the Managing Director of Programs, the Senior Coaching Director is a pivotal new role at NLA at the forefront of progressive movement infrastructure. This role will work closely with our Program team and lead our network of Lead Coaches and Subject Matter Leads (SMLs), collectively building capacity for the organizations we support. This work is critical to the progressive ecosystem now more than ever.

This position is responsible for the recruitment, vetting, training, and regular coaching of our Lead Coach team as well as overseeing alignment between Program goals and the delivery of high-quality coaching. In this role, you’ll contribute to the unique opportunity to shape the future of movement infrastructure while having a crucial impact on progressive power-building work across the country.

Our current Lead Coach model

Lead Coaches provide comprehensive capacity-building support to multi-entity organizations, using NLA's resources and subject matter consultants (SMLs) and grounded in NLA’s foundational organizational capacities for capacity-building - strategic, operational, and adaptive. As Senior Coaching Director, you’ll ensure program success through resource coordination, relationship management, and team leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Coaching: Advise and support Lead Coaches and Subject Matter Leads, oversee Lead Coach hiring, and collaborate with program staff on needs of groups.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure consistent coaching quality and effectiveness of coaching services across all projects through a strong onboarding process and frequent training. Stay abreast of trends in movement infrastructure that can ensure our coaching program is current and relevant and can meet the emergent needs of our groups.
  • Program Design & Implementation: Monitor project progress, improve processes, review reports, and co-create resources.
  • Relationship Management: Build trusted relationships, lead collaborative meetings, and provide Subject Matter recommendations to the program team for matching with our groups.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of nonprofit management experience, including 5+ years in a multi-entity organization (consisting of 501c3, 501c4, PACs, and/or for-profit)
  • Understanding of multi-entity governance, compliance, finance and operational systems across entities
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team of consultants and staff members
  • Proven record of strong project management skills centered around collaboration and innovation
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience with program oversight, evaluation, and process improvement
  • Ease with technology, including skills in Google Suite and the capacity to self-teach and problem solve
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; the ability to approach differences and conflict with emotional maturity
  • Flexibility, responsiveness, a commitment to growth and learning, and giving and receiving feedback
  • Knowledge of the progressive ecosystem and power-building organizations working on legislation, electoral victories, and policy implementation
  • Personal alignment with NLA’s organizational values and experience implementing equity, justice and liberation values into your work
