Who are we?
Newmedica is one of the leading providers of NHS ophthalmology services in England, providing outpatients appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery. We aim to change lives through better sight and eye health.
We care for thousands of NHS and private patients a year in our specialist eye clinics across the country. We have significant growth plans over the next few years as we look to establish a national footprint and open many new sites across the UK.
We are thrilled to say that following an independently conducted survey of Newmedica colleagues, we have been certified as a Great Place to Work® for the second year running. This is a global benchmark that recognises employers who create an outstanding employee experience.
Overview of the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Support Pharmacist to join our team. This is a full time remote role with national travel. It is expected that you will be visiting our services approximately four to six times a month.
You will be responsible for supporting the Lead Governance Pharmacist in the promotion and delivery of activities which enhance the safety and governance of medicines within Newmedica. You will play a vital role in monitoring and auditing our surgical sites to ensure compliance with best practices and regulatory standards.
So what will I be doing?
In this role, you will conduct regular audits of our surgical sites to assess compliance with medicines management protocols and work with the multidisciplinary teams to identify areas of improvement. In addition, you will support quality improvement projects, audits and other medicine safety initiatives across the business.
You will work closely with ICB’s, external pharmacy services and Newmedica Ophthalmology Joint Venture (OJV) partners, supporting the safe and effective delivery of care to our patients. You will also compile timely reports for OJVs, post inspection visits.
You will operate as an experienced, registered Pharmacist with current and relevant practice and demonstrable knowledge and understanding of medicines governance, medicines optimisation, safety, legislation and best practice.
What experience do I need?
We are looking for a qualified GPhC registered Pharmacist who may be in the early stages of their career and wants to develop in auditing and monitoring, or a Pharmacist currently working in a quality improvement role, now wanting to expand their portfolio.
You will be familiar with pharmacy regulations, and have experience of medicines governance; you will also need experience of pharmacy compliance and auditing. Professional knowledge of effective medicines optimisation and safe management of medicines in either a primary or secondary environment will help you to succeed in this role.
You will be an excellent communicator with strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement. Excellent report writing skills are essential. You will also need excellent stakeholder management skills alongside the ability to challenge others and have difficult conversations.
Experience of ophthalmology while not essential, would be an advantage.
