We are looking for an organized, experienced, and driven Team Lead for our Data Engineering team. The Lead will be responsible for delivering great code and pushing forward our software. They will also combine deep technical expertise (~75%) with leadership and mentoring(~25%) to shape the future of our data infrastructure. The ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter who can work well in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

  • Lead & Manage the Team: Supervise and mentor a team of 2 Data Engineers and 1 Cloud Engineer, fostering growth and collaboration. (You’ll report directly to the CTO.)
  • Build Robust Data Pipelines: Drive the development and optimization of data pipelines, architectures, and ETL/ELT processes to ensure high-quality data flow and easy access to insights across the company.
  • Modernize Our Data Platform: Own and guide the migration from unstructured data environments without a cohesive infrastructure, to a new, simplified data model. Design and implement scalable data solutions (data warehouses, data lakes, etc.) using best practices in data engineering.
  • Cross-Team Data Integration: Ensure seamless integration of data across various teams. Enable a decentralized data engineering approach by equipping other teams with the tools and standards to handle their data needs while maintaining overall data consistency.
  • Technical Strategy & Innovation: Evaluate and recommend the best data technologies for the job. Leverage AWS services (Redshift, Glue, Lambda, S3, etc.) and introduce non-AWS solutions when they provide a clear benefit (Snowflake, Databricks, etc). Keep our tech stack modern, scalable, and aligned with business goals.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary interface between the data engineering team and business stakeholders. Proactively gather requirements, manage expectations, and translate ambiguous or evolving business needs into actionable data projects and deliverables.
  • Data Quality & Performance: Uphold high standards for data quality, security, and performance. Optimize data architectures and queries for efficiency, and troubleshoot issues to maintain smooth operations.
  • On-time delivery of quality software based on various cloud architecture
  • Willingness to collaborate with and mentor your teammates to help them do the same

Qualifications:

  • Technical Leadership Experience: Proven experience as the senior or lead engineer on a data engineering team, with exceptional skills in designing data pipelines and building cloud-based architectures.
  • Data Warehouse & Lake Expertise: Strong background in implementing data warehouses and data lakes, with the insight to choose the right approach for a given scenario.
  • Cloud & Tools Proficiency: Extensive hands-on experience with AWS data services (Redshift, Glue, Lambda, S3, etc.). Open mindset towards incorporating the best non-AWS technologies (Snowflake, BigQuery, Spark, etc.) when appropriate.
  • Programming & Database Skills: Expertise in SQL databases, Python programming, and distributed computing frameworks (e.g. Spark or Hadoop). Ability to architect and optimize complex data transformations.
  • Problem Solver & Owner: Excellent problem-solving skills with a track record of taking ownership in fast-paced, evolving environments. You can navigate unclear requirements and still drive projects to completion that deliver business value.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Strong leadership, communication, and people skills. Experience mentoring engineers and elevating the technical bar for a team. Able to foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and high performance.
  • Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders who may have shifting or not-yet-defined needs. You’re proactive in eliciting requirements and can communicate complex data concepts in clear, non-technical terms.
  • Knowledge of agile and Scrum principles and a willingness to hone your use of agile methods
  • Strong team-oriented mindset with a heavy focus on collaboration and mentorship
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (integrity, patience, empathy, etc.)
  • Be a quick learner, hard worker, and problem solver
