SUMMARY: Stride is seeking a college intern pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in the area of Data Science or related disciplines.  The Data Science Intern will work with other data scientists and domain experts to help expand knowledge and deliver data-driven insights in the K-12 education industry. The Stride data team will support and mentor you, but you will be expected to work independently and contribute original ideas to accomplish team goals.

  • Perform data manipulation, analysis and presentation;
  • Collaborate with teammates as well as other parts of the organization to complete assigned tasks;
  • Participate in team meetings;
  • Pursue deep, exploratory understanding of data in raw and curated forms to expand our knowledge of its real-world context;
  • Apply the scientific method in data analysis by forming a hypothesis, developing any statistical modeling to validate it, and forming an evidence-based conclusion on that hypothesis;
  • Document and interpret analysis findings into digestible and actionable insights that matter to the business;
  • Deliver final presentation to the team and possibly other interested parties at the end of the internship;

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High School Diploma OR
  • Currently pursuing a BS/BA or MS/MA degree OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Passionate about translating data into actionable insight in context of the human experience the data represents.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and execution skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent time-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to listen effectively, respect others’ perspectives and contributions, and offer and accept constructive feedback.
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency.
  • Ability to clear required background check.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and common machine learning models
  • Python programming and familiarity with core data libraries (e.g., pandas, numpy, matplotlib, scikit learn)
  • Familiarity with agile development practices and Atlassian utilities (e.g., Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence)

  • This is an office- or home-based position.  The noise level in the office is usually moderate (computers, printers, light foot traffic).  

Compensation & Benefits: Stride, Inc. considers a person’s education, experience, and qualifications, as well as the position’s work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value when determining a new employee’s salary level. Salaries will differ based on these factors, the position’s level and expected contribution, and the employee’s benefits elections. Offers will typically be in the bottom half of the range. 

  • We anticipate this position will pay $20.00 - $22.00 per hour. This is a temporary internship. This salary is not guaranteed, as an individual’s compensation can vary based on several factors. These factors include, but are not limited to, geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions.
