Job description

The Manager of Human Resources (HR) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including HR compliance, employee development, engagement, performance management, and leave of absence management. This role ensures HR best practices align with business goals while maintaining compliance with all employment laws and regulations.

The Manager of Human Resources (HR) will lead two HR Generalists and work closely with leadership to foster a high-performance, people-first culture where employees feel valued and supported in their professional growth. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Human Resources.

Key Responsibilities

HR Compliance, Policy Management, & Leave Management

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, LOA, State PFL).
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks.
  • Conduct HR audits and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee employee relations and workplace investigations, ensuring fair and legal resolution of issues.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance departments as needed and manage the Annual Compliance process.
  • Advise leadership on HR compliance and risk management.
  • Oversee leave of absence management, including compliance with FMLA, ADA, and other applicable leave policies.

Employee Development, Relations, & Engagement

  • Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives to enhance workplace culture and retention.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth by supporting career development opportunities.
  • Implement performance management strategies, including goal-setting, coaching, and feedback programs.
  • Assist leadership with annual employee performance review process.
  • Measure and analyze employee engagement survey results to drive workplace improvements.
  • Manage employee programs, including rewards and recognition initiatives, to enhance job satisfaction and retention.
  • Handle terminations and post-termination processes, including DOL communication, unemployment claims, and exit interviews.
  • Support talent acquisition efforts, ensuring a strong employer brand and candidate experience.
  • Utilize HR analytics and workforce metrics to measure effectiveness and inform decision-making.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3+ years in an HR leadership or management role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong experience in HR compliance, employee development, engagement, workforce planning, and leave management.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • HR certification preferred (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar).
  • Experience managing HR functions and leading HR initiatives.
  • Experience supporting HR functions in a multi-state environment.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of employment laws, workforce planning, employee engagement strategies, and leave of absence management.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team collaboration skills.
  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills to ensure clear and compliant HR records.
  • Ability to manage multiple HR functions and prioritize competing demands.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to use HR data and metrics for decision-making
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and partner with leadership.
  • Ability to effectively work within a remote/virtual environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills to bridge management and employee relations.
  • This role is integral to maintaining a positive professional environment and ensuring HR initiatives run smoothly across all departments within the organization.
