Manager, Development

Location: Province of Ontario or Quebec—Work from home #LI-Remote

mdf commerce Inc. is an international team of approximately 650 experts who develop a broad set of SaaS solutions to optimize and accelerate commercial interactions of its B2B and B2G customers.

Working in the GovTech sector for our new brand SOVRA, we are looking for a Manager, Development to lead a team of backend developers and contribute to the release and deployment of new version of our platform. 

Your Role and Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be led to:

• Lead and mentor a team of Back-End Developers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
• Be proficient in all aspects of software development including requirement analysis, generating documentation, unit testing, troubleshooting, packaging and deploying solutions.
• Deliver quality software, with a focus on scalability, performance and security.
• Manage and optimize the release promotion process, working with DevOps and QA to ensure smooth deployments.
• Understand, comply with, and enforce development standards to ensure consistency across the larger development team.
• Enforce and contribute to development best practices, coding standards and process improvements.
• Design and implement APIs and backend solutions, integrating with various platforms and services.
• Remain knowledgeable of emerging technologies/industry trends and apply them into operations and activities.
• Provide coaching and mentoring, act as a facilitator/moderator, problem solver and participate in team workload. 
• Set performance goals and conduct team evaluations to support career growth
• Collaborate with the development team, Architect and Product Owner to align on technical solutions.
• Set goals and take ownership of team member evaluation. Provide constructive feedback and ensure performance levels.
• Be an ambassador of the company’s values.

Your Skills and Experience

• Strong background in modern architecture and BackEnd software design
• Proficiency in Java, Python, SQL, with experience in building scalable backend applications.
• Understanding of API Development, microservices and cloud-based architecture (AWS preferred).
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, deployment pipelines and release management.
• Proficient with Git and version control best practices.
• Ability to facilitate productive discussions, resolve conflicts and drive alignment within teams.
• Excellent time-management and communication skills.
• A continuous improvement mindset, always looking for ways to optimize processes and team efficiency.

What Will Make You Stand Out?

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• 10+ years of software development experience, including 5+ years managing teams.
• Experience with building and consuming API and Microservices, Dev/Ops practices and cloud infrastructure
• A track record of fostering innovation, collaboration and engagement in the development teams.
