Job description

Background

The African Climate Foundation (ACF) is the first and only African-led climate change re-granting organisation on the continent. Through a combination of grant making, fellowships, transformational research, technical assistance, coalition building and advocacy the ACF seeks to support interventions at the nexus of climate change, and development that have the greatest potential to deliver long-term socio-economic transformation and inclusive development.

 

Purpose

The Programme Coordinator will support the International Partnerships portfolio, as well as project manage, with the Executive Director and Head of Programmes, existing Sustainable Finance Grants.

 

Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

Ethiopia project:

  • To assist the team in coordinating the Ethiopia project to conduct a comprehensive fiscal policy analysis of Ethiopia’s climate policies, including public budget allocations, investment trends, revenue mobilisation strategies, and private sector participation, to inform policy recommendations for improving climate finance mobilisation and efficiency.

 

Tanzania country platform:

  • To assist the team in developing the strategy for the Tanzania's country platform, with the focus on energy transition, sustainable land use and agriculture, green industrialization and climate diplomacy (NDC, etc.).

 

Implementation work of International Partnership:

  • To support the implementation of international partnership initiatives and projects, China-Africa partnership in particular (such as Senegal-China, Nigeria-China etc.), and assist the team in COP30 preparation, coordinating among country platforms and thematic working groups.

 

Team Administration and Ad Hoc Support:

  • To assist the Head of Programmes in managing the China-Africa related grants
  • To set up meetings and keep minutes
  • To prepare notes and speeches
  • Through proficient use of PowerPoint, help to prepare concise presentations on relevant topics for various stakeholders
  • To develop reports based on research and present findings in a clear and cohesive format to management and stakeholders
  • To assist in organizing events (forums, webinars, conferences, capacity-building sessions, etc.)
  • To ensure task lists are updated timeously
  • Occasional travel

 

Requirements include but not limited to:  

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Investment, Business Management, Climate, Environment or Politics
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in international development in the areas of climate change, energy transition, sustainable landuse and agriculture
  • Experience working for financial institutions, international organizations, consulting firms or African governmental agencies and thinktanks
  • Experience in investment, sustainable finance, climate finance and policies highly advantageous
  • Able to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Able to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Detail oriented, results-driven and work with high levels of accuracy
  • Strong analytical skills, with an aptitude for problem solving and innovative thinking
  • Fluency in English; working knowledge of French or Chinese is an advantage
  • Able to travel to different African countries for business (when required)

 

Start date: Position available immediately

Location: ACF’s operational hub is in Cape Town, South Africa. Remote work will be considered for candidates based in Africa.

Contract duration: 6 months
