Job description

Who are we?

Newmedica are one of the leading providers of NHS ophthalmology services in England, providing outpatients appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery.  We care for thousands of NHS and private patients a year in our specialist eye clinics across the country. We aim to change lives through better sight and eye health.

We are thrilled to say that following an independently conducted survey of Newmedica colleagues, we have been certified as a Great Place to Work for the second year running. This is a global benchmark that recognises employers who create an outstanding employee experience.

Role overview

We have a brand-new role at Newmedica for an Information Governance Manager. This role will lead our efforts to ensure compliance with data protection laws and promote efficient use of information across our organisation. This dedicated role will offer the opportunity to shape and drive the Information Governance agenda across the entire company.

What will I be doing?

As our Information Governance Manager, you'll be at the heart of our data protection and information governance (IG) activities. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include leading IG work programmes and assisting with organisational IG procedures. It’ll be a real mix of taking the strategic lead alongside rolling sleeves up and undertaking operational hands-on activity

You will participate in information governance meetings and conduct annual IG audits, as well as designing and delivering IG training sessions. Additionally, you will review Data Protection Impact Assessments, Data Sharing and Processing Agreements.

Acting as the Data Protection Officer, you will ensure compliance with GDPR and other data protection legislation. You will also advise colleagues on policies and procedures, implement NHS England directives related to IG, and ensure our arrangements meet national and statutory standards.

Collecting evidence for annual DSPT submissions, developing and maintaining policies and procedures, and monitoring compliance with mandatory IG training for all staff are also key aspects of the role. Furthermore, you will provide regular IG briefings and updates, advise on IG requirements for new service provisions, liaise with technology teams on IG issues, and understand and advise on the impacts of AI tools on IG.

What skills and experience do I need?

We are looking for someone with extensive experience in an information governance role within a healthcare setting, that could be in the NHS or in another independent provider. Having led an IG agenda in your current healthcare role will ensure understanding of the requisite specialist sector knowledge of current legislation and its application across our services.

You will possess excellent stakeholder engagement skills. Your role will be to bring information governance alive and make it engaging for all stakeholders across the business. You’ll be working within and lead cross-functional working and project groups,

You should also have experience in delivering training, excellent listening, communication, and presentation skills, and strong writing skills, including the ability to summarise information and key issues. Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other standard software is required

You’ll have a strong sense of personal and team accountability, and the ability to make autonomous decisions on difficult issues, often working to tight and changing timescales

This is a remote role, with the successful candidate ideally based in the Nottingham or London area. There will be regular national travel required.

Please note we use video interviews as part of our recruitment process. If you are shortlisted, you will be asked to complete a short video interview as the next stage of the process. There will then be final face to face interview in London on 4th April
