Job Overview:
The Project Controls Manager will be responsible for planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, and reporting for data center, fiber optics, and telecommunication projects. This role involves managing a team of project controls professionals and collaborating with stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, estimators, designers, finance, and clients, to ensure project success. The successful candidate will oversee the performance of the project controls discipline and provide leadership, direction, and strategic guidance to team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Controls Planning: Develop and maintain project controls plans and procedures.
Scheduling: Implement and maintain project schedules, including resource loading, critical path analysis, and progress monitoring.
Cost Management: Manage project budgets, track costs, prepare financial forecasts, and develop strategies to manage project costs effectively.
Risk Management: Monitor and manage project risks, including identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks and opportunities.
Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely project reporting to stakeholders, including progress updates, cost reports, and risk registers.
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of project controls professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and development opportunities.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers estimators, finance, designers, and engineers to ensure project objectives are achieved within scope, schedule, and budget constraints. Liaise with clients and other stakeholders to manage expectations and ensure alignment with project goals.
Process Improvement: Assist in drafting new and improving existing project management processes and become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on company project management software.
Performance Oversight: Oversee the project’s cost controls, change management, risk management, earned value, and scheduling efforts.
Project Health: Evaluate project health status and maintain effective communication with project leadership.
Interdisciplinary Coordination: Communicate with engineering, construction, and procurement teams to coordinate project activities and inputs.
Audit and Review: Review and audit cost, progress, and schedule reports related to project controls.
Governance and Progress Control: Establish project milestones, timelines, and critical paths. Monitor project progress against established targets and implement corrective actions when deviations occur.
Customer Acceptance: Work closely with customers to define acceptance criteria, ensure project deliverables meet or exceed expectations, and facilitate acceptance testing and signoff.
Project Closeout: Lead project closeout reviews. Assessing and sharing success and lessons learned to improve future project management efforts.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Business, or a related field, PMP preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant experience with 3+ years of leadership experience.
• 3+ years of experience in project management, project controls, or related roles.
• Strong understanding of project management principles, practices, and tools, including scheduling, cost control, risk management, and reporting.
• Highly analytical and strategic with a creative and hands on leadership style.
• Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills.
• Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to articulate information clearly.
• Extensive experience with the Microsoft Office, including Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with a strong capability to integrate and utilize these tools effectively for project management and reporting.
• Ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
• Experience in NetSuite preferred.
• Must be able to self-lead and communicate effectively to all levels of project team, including management and clients.
