Position Overview 

 

The Director of Business Development will lead BoxPower’s demand generation and pipeline growth initiatives, owning the "qualified pipeline additions" KPI and ensuring a steady flow of qualified opportunities for our specialized sales units (Utility and C&I) to convert. This role will oversee lead generation activities—including online marketing, conference attendance, direct outreach, and inbound lead management—while maintaining and reporting on pipeline health and performance to the executive team. 

This is a strategic leadership role requiring a blend of marketing expertise, outbound sales acumen, and data-driven decision-making. The Director of Business Development will work cross-functionally with sales, marketing, and executive leadership to optimize BoxPower’s go-to-market strategy, expand market presence, and accelerate revenue growth. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

Demand Generation & Lead Management 

  • Develop and execute multi-channel lead generation strategies (digital marketing, content marketing, direct outreach, partnerships, and industry events) to generate high-quality sales opportunities. 
  • Identify and cultivate new business opportunities through outbound outreach, strategic partnerships, and targeted engagement campaigns. 
  • Own and optimize the end-to-end lead qualification process, ensuring seamless handoff of opportunities to Utility and C&I sales teams. 
  • Oversee the company’s conference and industry event strategy, ensuring strong representation, lead capture, and follow-up processes. 
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to develop compelling value propositions, outreach sequences, and thought leadership content that resonate with key customer segments. 

Pipeline Management & Reporting 

  • Maintain and improve BoxPower’s CRM system, ensuring accurate tracking of leads, opportunities, and pipeline stages. 
  • Provide regular reports and insights on pipeline health, lead conversion rates, and business development effectiveness to the executive team. 
  • Develop and track KPIs related to lead acquisition, conversion rates, and pipeline velocity to measure and optimize business development performance. 
  • Continuously refine targeting strategies, based on data analysis and market trends, to enhance lead quality and conversion rates. 

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Lead and mentor a Marketing Manager and Sales Operations Associate, driving efficiency and accountability across demand generation functions. 
  • Work closely with Utility and C&I sales teams to align business development strategies with sales goals and priorities. 
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure messaging aligns with BoxPower’s evolving technology offerings. 
  • Foster relationships with external stakeholders, including channel partners, industry influencers, and key accounts, to expand BoxPower’s market reach. 
  • And other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications & Experience 

  • 7+ years of experience in business development, demand generation, or sales leadership, preferably in the energy, microgrid, or renewable energy sector. 
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful lead generation strategies that drive revenue growth. 
  • Strong understanding of B2B marketing, outbound sales, and digital demand generation best practices. 
  • Experience managing and optimizing CRM systems (e.g., HubSpot) and lead tracking processes. 
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions. 
  • Strong leadership and team management experience, with the ability to mentor and scale a high-performing business development team. 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with executive stakeholders, clients, and partners. 
  • Willingness to travel to conferences, industry events, and partner meetings as needed. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in renewable energy, energy storage, or microgrids. 
  • Familiarity with utility procurement processes and commercial & industrial (C&I) energy solutions. 
  • Knowledge of SEO, PPC, and marketing automation tools to support demand generation initiatives. 

Compensation$150,000 - $225,000 (base + commission)
