Reports To: Data Science & Engineering - Managing Director

The Role:

JD Power is looking for a data engineer with excellent quantitative and analytical skills. Our ideal candidates are determined to use their skills to combine multiple data sources together to solve complex client questions around vehicle valuations, market readiness, and customer purchase decisions.   You’ll work hands on with quantitative data to help create new capabilities, and to improve and maintain existing capabilities.

The Impact You Will Have in This Role:

We make data products that solve problems for the auto industry. Every data engineer will work on projects that go into production and directly impact new and existing products.

What You'll Be Doing in This Role:

  • Daily immersion in automotive industry data
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define data requirements
  • Engineer robust and extensible data pipelines for new and existing products
  • Design, troubleshoot, and execute repeatable data processes, in which you’re finding bottlenecks and ways to become incrementally more efficient
  • Generate valuable insights from our data and package them into insightful client-friendly interpretations
  • Interdisciplinary work: you’ll interact with multiple teams across the firm to implement solutions and improve processes. This includes Consulting, New Product Development, Data, Engineering, etc.

Qualifications of this Role:

  • 5+ years of full-time quantitative analytics experience
  • Highly skilled in extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes with quantified efficiency and accuracy outcomes
  • Experience in bringing together data sets across multiple sources, with multiple dimensions and layers of complexity
  • Demonstrated exposure to data analytics, and/or statistical concepts such as: promotion/price, media mix modeling, multivariate regression, logistic regression, time-series modeling, data mining, simulation, optimization, and/or forecasting
  • Fluency of database software: SQL required
  • Fluency in statistical programming software: Python & R preferred
  • Experience resolving data issues in creative and effective ways.  Example: Acumen and gut instincts to know when to say, “This doesn’t seem reasonable.”
  • Bachelor’s degree (required) with statistics or mathematical background: Econometrics, Statistics, Operations Research, Quantitative Marketing, Finance, Engineering or similar
  • An effective cross functional communicator in both written and verbal skills
  • Ability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment

The Hiring Manager says:

We want data engineering candidates who can monitor, evaluate and improve data processes independently and with an eye toward continuous improvement.  We need the capability to leverage the right data sets efficiently from an impressive set of data assets that is unrivaled in this space.
