Team Infrastructure is responsible for maintaining and improving Glia's cloud-native core infrastructure, ensuring its availability, security, and performance. The team also implements and supports CI/CD, monitoring, and other tools, allowing our product teams to move fast without breaking things.

 

The work

Some of the Infrastructure Engineer’s responsibilities include:

 

  • maintaining and updating Glia’s core infrastructure;
  • troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure-related issues;
  • improving our security posture;
  • implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines;
  • implementing support for telemetry;
  • consulting other teams on infrastructure-related topics;
  • working with third-party vendors and service providers.

 

Infrastructure Engineers report to the team’s Engineering Manager. The team’s work is driven by business goals, with priorities defined in collaboration with the Director of Engineering. All projects within the team’s space are planned, led, and executed by engineers. There is a compensated on-call duty with at least one-week rotation per month. 

 

The team’s setup:

Team Infrastructure has engineers in Vancouver, Toronto and Halifax, our processes are optimized for remote collaboration. Working within any Canadian timezone is required.

  • Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes (AWS EKS), Service Mesh
  • Persistence: Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL)
  • Cache: Amazon ElastiCache (Redis/Valkey)
  • Event Streaming: Apache Kafka
  • Message Broker: RabbitMQ
  • Monitoring: DataDog
  • CI/CD: Jenkins, Github Actions, ArgoCD
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform

Additionally, engineering teams at Glia use:

  • Backend: Elixir, Ruby, Python, Javascript
  • Frontend: JavaScript and ReactJS
  • Native mobile SDKs: Java and Swift

Requirements

  • Platform Engineering Exposure – Experience with platforms and understanding fundamental platform engineering concepts.
  • Terraform Proficiency – Hands-on experience with Terraform in at least one well-structured project, understanding module-based infrastructure as code (IaC) practices.
  • GitOps Fundamentals – Familiarity with GitOps principles and hands-on experience with at least one tool (e.g., ArgoCD, FluxCD, or similar).
  • AWS Experience – Competence in AWS services, particularly IAM, EC2, S3, Lambda, and API Gateway. Strong general AWS networking knowledge.
  • Serverless Understanding – Comfortable with AWS serverless services, able to deploy and manage simple functions and event-driven architectures.
  • Security Awareness – Understanding basic compliance (SOC2, ISO27001, etc.) and AWS security best practices.
  • Networking Fundamentals – Understanding of VPCs, subnets, and security groups. Able to debug basic networking issues.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Preferred/Bonus Skills

  • Experience with on-call rotation or willingness to learn.
  • Experience working across time zones and handling asynchronous communication effectively.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.
