Job Description:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Controller to lead our accounting and financial reporting functions. As Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, compliance with government regulations, and the development of scalable processes to support our rapid growth. You will work closely with our senior leadership, oversee financial operations, and implement best-in-class accounting practices tailored to the fintech and government sectors. The ideal candidate would have experience bringing accounting in-house from an outsourced setup and experience managing migration from QBO to Netsuite or a similar platform.

This role will report to our CFO, and is remote but hybrid to our New York City office for those located in the metropolitan area. The salary range for this position is $160,000- $215,000 based on experience and location. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP and government regulations
  • Maintain compliance with government contracts, grants, and financial reporting standards
  • Lead general ledger management, accounts payable/receivable, tax compliance, and payroll processing to support business objectives
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks
  • Support financial planning, budgeting, and cash flow management, ensuring alignment with MoCaFi’s strategic priorities
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and system upgrades to increase efficiency as MoCaFi grows
  • Manage external audits, tax filings, and relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies
  • Partner with the executive team, product, and operations teams to align financial strategy with business objectives
  • Analyze financial performance, identify areas for improvement, and provide recommendations to executive leadership
  • Conduct financial due diligence on partnerships and contracts, ensuring alignment with MoCaFi’s mission and growth plans

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in accounting and bookkeeping, with at least 2 years in a senior leadership role as controller, ideally in Fintech, SaaS or platform companies with exposure to government contracts, grants, and usage based pricing models
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, and regulatory requirements for government-related financial operations
  • Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and automation tools (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Workday)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain high-quality work in a fast-paced startup environment 
  • Must be authorized to work and permanently based in the United States
