Job Summary

The Director of Engineering is accountable for the functions of planning, execution, and support of one or more software delivery teams and/or products. In this role, you will empower, coach, and maintain staff on the engineering delivery teams, while facilitating team connectedness and engagement. You will work with product & business leads to form a multi-year plan, creating alignment within product roadmaps, and participate in the planning and prioritization of work. Additionally, you will audit for adherence to standards/regulations in security, financial, and legal matters, ensuring governance and compliance.

Bring your passion for improving software build, deployment, and support – with a close eye to customer focus - along with a never-ending curiosity for how to continuously make it better!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously work to foster ‘one team’ mentality across delivery and business team members. Radiate information to give staff the outside-of-team IT and business context for their work.
  • Align processes and tooling to IT operational governance requirements including SDLC Metrics, Software Standards, and Production Support.
  • Be an agent of change using lean methods to drive continuous improvements that support the team and organization.
  • Participate in vendor selection, and contract development & review including deliverables, scope, SOW’s, RFP’s, SLAs, and KPIs as applicable.

Skills and Background You’ll Need

  • EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • EXPERIENCE:  Typically requires 8 – 10 years’ experience within IT and 3+ years’ experience managing IT employees, or the equivalent combination of education/experience. Experience leading high-performing engineering teams is required.
  • Experience building, deploying, and supporting hybrid solutions (cloud/on-prem). Experience with cloud-native development (Azure preferred) and hybrid solution development. Extensive experience building CI/CD pipelines with a developer-first mindset. Experience with automation, infrastructure as code and configuration management. Experience in infrastructure / operations leadership is preferred.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing solutions/systems and working under SLAs for availability and performance.
  • Expertise with Agile development in a medium to large organization, preferably with the SAFe model.

Key Behaviors of a Successful Candidate

  • Engaging Hearts & Minds: Creates a team identity and builds momentum toward a shared purpose.
  • Strategic Visioning: Considers different future scenarios, opportunities and risks to generate operational plans that align with the business unit/function’s strategic vision.
  • Developing People: Delivers both individual and group feedback to support ongoing development and overall department performance.
