A Brief Overview
This Sr. Underwriting Consult underwrites Group Life, Accident and Disability reinsurance lines, supports marketing efforts and delivers value-added services. Underwriting responsibilities will entail assisting business development efforts and thorough risk evaluation of facultative referral cases for the benefit of both the client and RGA. This individual’s consultative expertise will also be leveraged for value-added service innovation and implementation. Accountability is measured by profitability to RGA completion within required time frames and client satisfaction
What You Will Do
Independently evaluates risk and underwrites for Group Life, Accident and Disability reinsurance products. Analyzes data, evaluates characteristics of reinsurance arrangements, applies relevant experience, and considers use of manual or alternative rates to the treaty. Ensures that RGA can administer the client’s proposed reinsurance. Develops and maintains relationships with clients and provides service.
Client responsibilities Handles varied facets of larger more complex accounts, maintains relationships, handles facultative needs, service deliveries, reporting to and from clients, treaty maintenance, oversees correct premium and claims in tandem with account management staff.
Contributes to Group Re profitability by analyzing/assessing assigned client profitability through experience and expense analysis and attention to assigned account performance.
Conducts underwriting value added services for assigned and other accounts.
Takes on more industry presence at meetings (ex. GUAA), assists on publishing and presenting topics, and as assigned leads services.
Qualifications
Required Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work experience
4+ years of Group Life, Accident or Disability reinsurance underwriting experience or 6+ years direct Group Life, Accident or Disability underwriting experience

Preferred Marketing experience
Basic Word skills and Excel skills.
Competent ability to comprehend and interpret insurance and contract documents.
Advanced value judgment abilities.
Advanced knowledge of insurance principles, underwriting policies and procedures and guidelines for dealing with risk analysis.
Advanced knowledge of law, accounting, and finance as applied to the evaluation of life reinsurance risks and of life insurance risks.
Ability to comprehend, analyze and apply vast amounts of medical and financial information quickly to making sound financial underwriting and risk assessments.
Advanced oral and written communication skills demonstrating ability to share and impart knowledge.

Compensation Range
$87,050.00 - $131,450.00 Annual
Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
