General Description
The Technical Software Engineer Lead serves as a strategic and technical leader within the IT organization, steering the design, development, and integration of the credit union's core financial systems. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic vision and leadership, ensuring the team’s deliverables meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and innovation. The Technical Lead collaborates across business and IT leadership to drive technical direction, adopt emerging technologies, and align technical solutions with the organization’s long-term strategic goals.
Tasks, Duties, Functions
Technical Direction: Lead the team's technical strategy, ensuring alignment with current and future business goals.
Technical Escalation: Act as the first point of technical escalation within the department, ensuring timely resolution of complex challenges.
Quality Assurance & Best Practices: Ensure that all solutions uphold the highest standards of quality, performance, and security.
Incident Command: Lead response efforts during high-severity incidents, coordinating cross-functional teams and conducting post-mortem analyses.
SDLC Management and Maturation: Oversee and continuously improve the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes, incorporating modern practices and tools to ensure efficient, predictable, and high-quality software delivery.
Disaster Recovery: Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans for critical systems.
AI Integration: Oversee the development and integration of AI-driven solutions within the core systems to enhance functionality, improve operational efficiency, and enable predictive analytics.
Work Assignments: Evaluate team members' skill sets and expertise to assign work effectively, ensuring optimal outcomes.
Onboarding and Mentorship: Architect a robust onboarding process and mentor team members to build a strong pipeline of future technical leaders.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Serve as the primary technical liaison with banking architects and other high-caliber IT roles, fostering collaboration and technological synergy.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with executive leadership, IT stakeholders, and departmental managers to define and prioritize technical initiatives.
Enterprise Technology Strategy: Develop and contribute to the long-term technology strategy, aligning with corporate goals and industry trends.
Work Sizing: Assess and estimate the scope of new projects, making certain they align with time and resource constraints.
Innovation Lab Leadership: Establish and lead a technology innovation lab to prototype and test cutting-edge solutions for core banking systems.
R&D Initiatives: Drive research and development of tools, frameworks, and processes to improve team productivity and innovation.
Performance Metrics: Establish KPIs for software development, system performance, and team productivity, reporting progress to stakeholders.
Budget and Resource Planning: Provide input into budgeting processes, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for technical projects.
Data-Driven Decisions: Leverage analytics to inform technical decisions and strategic planning.
Continual Learning: Stay abreast of technological advances in the banking and financial sector, ensuring the team's skillsets and tools remain cutting-edge.
Develop and Maintain Regulatory Awareness: Ensure operational integrity and compliance with applicable regulations and establish control activities consistent with the organization’s risk appetite.
Business Continuity: Ensure continuity plans are in place and regularly updated for critical systems.

Qualifications
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is strongly preferred. However, substantial work experience, especially in the financial or banking technology sector, can be considered in lieu of a degree.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of ten years' experience in the design, development, and management of financial systems or similar high-transaction, mission-critical applications in a regulated environment is essential. Prior leadership or mentorship roles are a plus.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS: Expertise in modern and legacy banking systems, cloud platforms, database design, and Object-Oriented Programming. A deep understanding of software development life cycles, agile methodologies, and workload balancing is crucial. Strong emphasis on innovation, quality assurance, documentation, and architectural integrity.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged sitting throughout the workday with occasional mobility required.
Corrected vision within the normal range.
Hearing within normal range. A device to enhance hearing will be provided if needed.
Occasional movements throughout the department daily to interact with staff, accomplish tasks, etc.
Moderate travel (3-4 times annually) locally, statewide, and throughout the United States to attend seminars and vendor group meetings. Overnight travel and evening schedules included.
Prolonged operation of a personal computer, which includes typing, operating a mouse and reading information on the monitor.
Carry and respond to smartphone 24/7 and ensure that appropriate team members are available and cross-trained for escalation support activities.
