Summary
Point Broadband is looking to hire an Access Engineer. The position will help design, build and deploy Point Broadband’s access networks, cabinet infrastructure and support headend and POP distribution network elements and connectivity. Maintaining a focus on ensuring high reliability, this engineer will design, test, and deploy new platforms and solutions, mentor the network operations staff while also acting as an escalation point for the PBB network Production Engineering team.
Duties And Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed below:
Responsible for participating in design, implementing, and supporting Point Broadband’s access, distribution, and core networks.
Responsible for working with internal groups and external partners in the design, acceptance testing, and production implementation for all infrastructure.
Lead and coordinate with vendors, customers and outside organizations when supporting access and distribution layer repair or implementation efforts.
Prepare written reports and other technical documentation to communicate ideas, concepts, and details necessary to accomplish specific goals.
Analyze chronic network imperfections for root cause source and recommend any appropriate corrective actions. Implement fix/correction as directed.
Contribute to the definition of operational and support requirements for new network related technologies and products
Create and provide detailed documentation for process flows, job aids and application guidelines for all applications and elements under the management purview of production engineering
Provide routing escalation support for all metro and backbone network elements
Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education/Experience
Bachelor of Science or Applied Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or five years military and/or communications Engineering experience preferred
JNCIA/JNCIS/JNCIP and/or CCNP/CCIP/CCDP required and or equivalent work experience; certs are not a must though validate knowledge.
Must have proven experience in support and implementation turn-up of multi-gigabit access / last mile networks.
Proven experience with layer 2 or MPLS and commercial networks and the various components included.
Proven network support and implementation experience with OSPF, IS-IS, BGP and switching expertise.
Strong layer 1 - 4 supporting experience - excellent understanding of Internet and datacenter topologies
Experience evaluating, configuring, and troubleshooting a variety of network equipment specifically but not limited to: Adtran, Ericsson, Juniper, Ciena, Calix and Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia - solid understanding of associated vendor hardware architecture and characteristics.
Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills and a customer-centric attitude
(5) Five years of service provider network experience
Acquired Skills
Strong knowledge with the understanding and configuration of Arista/Mikrotik/Ciena/Juniper/Ericsson/Adtran routers and switches in an ISP environment
Thorough understanding of the OSI model and relational properties
Thorough understanding of various L2/L3 protocols and technologies: TCP/IP (v4 & v6) and related protocols, MPLS-based services, LACP, VRRP, STP, etc.
Strong understanding of Internet Protocols and interior/exterior routing protocols (e.g. ISIS, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Multicast/Unicast, IPv6)
Excellent understanding of ACLs, prefix lists, and firewalls
Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and IP Management
Experience in automation using common scripting languages; ability to read and understand a script vs greenfield composing.
