We are recruiting a Project Manager to report into and work closely with the Pesticide Collaboration Coordinator to run the collaboration for the final 6 months of the project.The location is flexible however will require occasional travel to London, Brighton and other locations.

The RSPB and PAN UK launched The Pesticide Collaboration in January 2021 to work towards achieving a significant and urgent reduction of pesticide-related harms in the UK. While PAN UK and RSPB are jointly managing the project, the Collaboration represents a broad range of interests and sectors including health, environment and consumer and workers’ rights. Beyond the Collaboration’s key role of bringing these voices together to be more than the sum of their parts, its main activities are lobbying government, parliamentarians and other decision-makers, working with journalists to secure media coverage, conducting policy work and deploying strategic communications.

What's the role about?

The successful candidate will be passionate about working with others to advocate for change. You must be committed to the achievement of environmental and social justice. You will be a team player, with proven experience of working to deliver and report on projects. You will be responsible for:

• Maintaining regular contact with all participating organisations in order to keep them up to date on external developments and Collaboration activities.
• Project management of collaboration projects, especially being able to adapt and respond to a fast-paced changing environment.
• Working with Collaboration partners to develop policies and advocate for change to UK policy, legislation and regulation
• Working with participating organisations to mobilise members of the public to campaign for change.
• Along with the Pesticide Collaboration Coordinator, representing the collaboration externally, for example with political decision-makers, civil servants and journalists.
• Organising events on behalf of the collaboration, ensuring that they run professionally.
• Producing a range of online and offline communication materials such as newsletters, blogs, social media posts and infographics
• Ensuring the projects deliver against the agreed key performance indicators
• Adhering to the governance structure to enable membership organisations to participate meaningfully in Collaboration decision-making and activities.
• Ensuring that internal and external stakeholders are kept fully involved and informed
• Managing the project budgets against forecast to report into overall budget
• Support in the development and creation of legacy outcomes for the Collaboration to aid in transition post project

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Highly developed project management and planning skills, in particular in relation to managing and planning advocacy activities and strategies.
• Highly developed organisational skills and excellent time management.
• Good understanding of the role of public facing communications/campaigns and public mobilisation in supporting advocacy.
• Experience of working in collaborations and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes
• Able to analyse complex issues in a fast-paced environment, and find creative solutions.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills, relevant to the role.
• Strong leadership skills, in particular a demonstrable ability to lead and advocate for change
• An ability to persuade and influence a wide range of people, both internally and externally.
• Competent IT user (e.g. MS packages, Outlook etc

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

• An understanding of pesticides and their impacts on the environment and human health or relevant policy areas such as environment or agriculture
• A qualification in a field related to environment, health, politics or any other relevant topic
• Policy development experience in any field
• A good understanding of the UK political system, and how to influence decision-makers.

Additional Information

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
