Start Date: 24th March 2025
End Date: 11th July 2025
Description
Better Cotton is the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. Our mission: to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment. In difficult times, we are meeting the challenge head on. Through our network of field-level partners we have provided training on more sustainable farming practices to more than 2.9 million cotton farmers in 26 countries. More than a fifth of the world’s cotton is now grown under the Better Cotton Standard and our membership network includes more than 2,400 members.
Background
In 2023, Better Cotton launched a traceability offering on our enterprise solution; the Better Cotton Platform (BCP). The platform has been successfully rolled out to 12 cotton producing countries and currently provides traceability to country of origin with data entry beginning at gin or trader depending on the country.
Some of the countries we operate in are already highly digitised with data collected at field and gin via various software platforms. To enable traceability to farm and streamline data collection at the first mile (farm and gin) we are seeking an experienced consultant to develop an automated data collection strategy and roadmap for Better Cotton for the US market. The scope of data includes;
-Farmer master data
-Field input data
-Yield data
-Gin production data
-PBIs
-Transaction data between farmers and buyers
Rather than developing our own platform to collect first mile data in the US, we are aiming to connect into the existing source/s of digital first mile data that are already being used via API, saving farmers time and money. In addition to providing traceability, this could also streamline our programmatic data for the US field.
The consultant will provide an overview of the US first mile digital landscape including government and private data collection tools, gather requirements from Better Cotton, identify feasible options and provide a detailed roadmap for the agreed final solution.
The consultant/s will have knowledge of the US cotton sector and will not be affiliated with a technology vendor. Proposals from technology vendors will not be considered.
