Job description

Charles Taylor is a highly successful global provider of professional services to the insurance industry. We are seeking a dynamic, experienced workers’ compensation claims adjuster to join our Third-Party Administration team remotely.

Residents of Louisville, KY with workers' compensation experience in Illinois are encouraged to apply.

Job Summary

The Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster is responsible for the investigation, administration, and settlement of workers’ compensation claims. This person must maintain timely correspondence and determine the best course of action with high levels of autonomy, working closely with clients, claimants, and attorneys as an experienced claims professional.

Essential Functions

  • Investigate new claims and initiate timely contacts with clients, claimants, medical providers and legal counsel to determine appropriate actions to be taken
  • Review medical reports and determine eligibility for benefits / payments
  • Calculate settlement and award values, documenting claims with benefits due
  • Negotiate settlements with claimants and attorneys, and draw up contracts
  • Respond to excess carrier requests regarding claim status and follow through on recommended actions
  • Meet with clients and account management to conduct claim reviews. This involves discussions to present cost reports, reserves, active claims and settlement recommendations; there is minimal travel to account locations
  • Refer claims occasionally to defense counsel, remaining directly involved in litigation claims management to reach desired outcomes and minimize expenses
  • Serve assigned clients as an experienced claims consultant
  • Attend meetings as assigned by your supervisor


Requirements

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
  • 5 years of experience adjusting Workers Compensation Claims in Illinois required
  • Proficiency in entire Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of relevant workers compensation laws
  • Strong grasp of medical terminology
  • Familiarity with medical cases and how treatment typically progresses
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities
  • Attention to detail and good organization skills
  • Ability to negotiate issues and settlements
  • Strong focus on customer service which includes timely response to requests/inquiries
  • Ability to adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
