The Case Assistant is a two year rotational role designed as an entry level position for individuals with excellent academic credentials to assist with a variety of case work. The position is designed to introduce the applicant to the basics of the legal field to gain a solid foundation before attending a legal post graduate program or pursuing another related legal path. During this time you will be highly trained with the oversight of Paralegal Manager and paralegal team members to introduce you to the basics of working in the legal field. The Case Assistant will also work closely with other professional staff and legal professionals. The opportunity to move into a paralegal role is a potential with this position, as appropriate to the individuals credentials and performance.

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Assist with litigation/M&A transactions as directed
  • Case file management (including document productions, pleadings and correspondence files, deposition transcripts, and exhibits) by organizing, maintaining, and tracking files to make them easily accessible
  • Document control, organization, review and production
  • Perform research using Westlaw, Lexis, and similar litigation support platforms
  • Data entry and spreadsheet management
  • Assist in trial exhibit organization
  • Assist in deposition preparation
  • Conduct factual research as required
  • Manage multiple tasks and complete under time constraints
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or prior law firm and/or legal internship experience preferred, though not required.
  • Paralegal certifications or experience are not required.  Future movement to a paralegal role would require a minimum of a BA/BS.  
  • Available to work overtime as required, even on short notice.  Travel may also be required as necessary.  
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously and manage multiple projects while prioritizing assignments
  • Ability to build rapport with attorneys, professional staff, and vendors
  • Strong computer skills, including web-based research and proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and various document management tools. Ability to learn and use new software quickly.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently but within a team environment
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem solving skills with attention to detail is a must

Position Details

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, non-exempt level position. Final rate of pay and title will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, with a targeted hiring range of $28.00 – $31.00 hourly (the upper range reserved for highly qualified applicants). This position is currently available in our NY, CT and DC office location only.
