Overview:

MasTec’s Clean Energy and Infrastructure Group (CE&I) is currently growing and seeking a Business Development Principal for our Infrastructure group.  The Business Development Principal serves as a steward of the organizations business development efforts, is responsible for managing the company’s business development processes and is called to provide support to win new work and build the MasTec brand.

 

This role can be remote, hybrid or in-office with 25-50% anticipated travel.  Preferences to markets in the Midwest, Southwest and Southeast due to the locations of our current and anticipated growth.

The Clean Energy & Infrastructure Group is comprised of the business sectors and companies: Industrial - Casey Industrial, MasTec Industrial, Phoenix Industrial; Infrastructure: American Civil Constructors West Coast, Cash Construction, FNF Construction, Lemartec Corporation, MasTec Civil, Precision Aggregate Products, Ragnar Benson Construction, Saiia, William Charles Construction, William Charles Electric; Renewables: IEA Constructors, Wanzek Construction, White Construction.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Support and implement opportunity pursuit/win strategies
  • Identify, research, and qualifying potential leads
  • Monitor sales pipeline and other corporate-level KPI/Metrics
  • Engage in industry related events and associations to maintain awareness of new industry trends and developments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet business goals
  • Manage/assist in market research as necessary
  • Manage CRM programs and data, specifically Salesforce
  • Produce and analyze data, using insights from reporting to strategically develop and execute business growth initiatives, often including market research and competitor analysis
  • Manage all client satisfaction activities
  • Maintain business development SOPs, guidelines, strategies, etc. for pursuit and processing of opportunities
  • RFQ/RFP/RFI (et. all) criteria and decision/selection processes
  • Provide guidance/training on pre/post client debriefing meetings, as needed
  • Provide guidance/training on submittal reviews and coordinate presentation rehearsals as necessary
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field
  • A minimum of 8 years work experience in the heavy civil construction or related industry

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects/activities in a dynamic fast-paced environment, with the ability to multi-task daily activities while maintaining focus on big-picture objectives
  • Excellent communication and organization development skills
  • Deep understanding and experience in proposal development, in conjunction with pursuit and proposal managers
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Business awareness and acumen to develop clients in a variety of market sectors
  • Proven track record of working effectively with organizations having complex matrix structures and diverse workforces
  • Ability to travel on a flexible schedule for extended periods of time on an as needed basis
  • Experience with the following software:
    • High proficiency in Microsoft Office with particular emphasis in Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups) and PowerPoint
    • Salesforce, specifically
      • Generating reports on business development and pipeline metrics
      • Acting as liaison between business operations and executive team to ensure Salesforce is meeting the needs of the business
      • Leading Salesforce and other system improvements to streamline BD processes and support accurate and timely decision making

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working for a large civil construction or engineering company

  • Experience negotiating agreements with subcontractors, partners, and designers

  • Deep understanding of pursuit life-cycle for a large construction organization

  • Experience launching new tools at large organizations with successful adoption

  • Experience developing and delivering BD training

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • When visiting jobsites, the work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
