Job description

Overview:

BerryDunn is looking for a Senior Proposal Writer to lead proposal development efforts and support business development activities within the Business Development Department. The ideal candidate will be driven and success oriented, with strong attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple priorities. Experience with government proposal writing and an understanding of government procurement processes is preferred. This position will sit in our headquarters in Portland, ME, one of our other offices, or remotely. You will report to a Business Development Manager and the Director of Business Development.

You Will:
  • Develop compelling, compliant, high-quality proposals
  • Work collaboratively with proposal staff, leadership, subject matter experts, external partners/organizations, and firm departments to meet strict proposal deadlines
  • Analyze solicitation documents and provide guidance and recommendations for go/no-go considerations, proposal structure, response requirements, and proposal development scheduling
  • Review and refine content regularly and as needed
  • Actively manage multiple solicitations at different stages and with a variety of stakeholders in the proposal process
  • Develop interview material in collaboration with subject matter experts (e.g., presentations, letters, and related documentation)
  • Conduct debriefs and lessons learned sessions with clients, prospects, and subject matter expects, as needed
  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities using purchasing sites and subscription tools
  • Conduct research for targeted opportunities and the competitive landscape
  • Manage and maintain the sales pipeline and proposal development processes using various technology tools (e.g., Salesforce, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook)
  • Support and guide proposal delivery and production activities, as needed
  • Occasionally attend and assist in preparing for industry events, meetings, and conferences
  • Limited travel (less than 10%)
You Have:
  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably with a relevant concentration (e.g., English, journalism, communications)
  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience developing large and complex proposals, technical documents, grants, and/or articles, preferably in a professional services environment; ideally in the state and/or local government industry
  • Experience writing government contract vehicle or master contract proposals (preferred)
  • Excellent writing, editing, organization, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and strict deadlines, both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Project management, leadership, and diplomacy skills with a customer service focus
  • Problem-solving, information-gathering, and research skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g., Word, Project, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to use develop clean, well-formatted documents
  • Industry certifications (e.g., APMP, Shipley) (preferred)
  • Writing samples that are representative of high quality work (preferred)
Compensation Details:

The base salary range targeted for this role is $65,000 to $85,000. This salary range represents BerryDunn’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications in excess of the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply and a final salary range may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, seniority, merit, education, training, amount of travel, and other relevant business considerations.
