Nevados is a distributed organization with many team members working remotely, while other roles require an in office and on-site presence. Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Director of Accounting will oversee the accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. This role will also support the company’s rapid growth by improving processes, implementing financial best practices, and working cross-functionally to drive efficiency. The ideal candidate has NetSuite experience, deep technical accounting expertise, and a strong background in the renewable energy, manufacturing, or construction sectors. The Director of Accounting will lead, develop and manage a team of accountants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in compliance with GAAP and industry-specific regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with tax filings, audits, and government reporting requirements, coordinating with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure financial integrity and mitigate risks.

  • Operational & Cost Accounting
  • Oversee cost accounting for inventory, materials, and project costs, ensuring accurate cost allocation and margin analysis.
  • Work closely with supply chain and operations teams to improve inventory management, COGS tracking, and pricing strategies.
  • Partner with operations teams to ensure accurate tracking and recognition of revenue and project costs.

  • Systems & Process Improvement
  • Serve as the NetSuite administrator and subject matter expert, optimizing the ERP system for efficiency and scalability.
  • Identify and implement process automation and best practices to improve the accuracy and timeliness of financial data.
  • Support financial planning & analysis (FP&A) efforts by providing key insights into revenue, costs, and operational efficiency.

  • Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead and develop the accounting team, ensuring high performance and continuous professional growth.
  • Collaborate with finance, operations, and executive leadership to align accounting functions with business objectives and strategic initiatives.
  • Assist with due diligence, M&A transactions, or capital raising efforts as needed.

  • Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • NetSuite expertise is required (implementation experience is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606), inventory accounting, and cost accounting.
  • Experience in renewable energy, manufacturing, or construction accounting is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead audits, tax filings, and compliance activities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and adapt to changing priorities.
