POSITION TITLE:           Applications DBA

Supervised by:                 Software Development Manager

Supervises:                      N/A

Status:                            Full-time, Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Applications DBA is a key position within MediQuant’s Agile Software Development Team and is the primary developer on database and query related design, development, performance management, bugs and production issues. The position is integral in designing new functionality for MediQuant’s software products by working with Development, Data Migration and IT to understand requirements and to architect and implement database structures and code to fulfill those requirements.  The Applications DBA works closely with Development’s Performance Test Engineers to ensure product service level agreements and response times are defined, measured and met as part of load, performance and data growth testing.   This is a development position requiring hands-on database development, administration, application performance management and web development experience.    

Development team members embrace whole team ownership and can adapt to rapidly changing priorities while working as part of a high performing agile team which develops within two-week iterations and releases monthly.

  1. Perform as the Process Owner for database changes by working closely with Development, Data Migration and IT teams during the monthly release process, hotfixes and projects to implement database and data changes. (*)
    1. Is the primary code reviewer and developer for database development and production support, schema changes, data migration and/or conversion scripts.
  2. Works within an Agile Development team consisting of Product Owners, Requirement Analysts, Developers, and Quality Assurance staff to design, develop, deploy and enforce database architectures, coding standards, and testing/change management policies and procedures. (*)
    1. Is the primary code reviewer and developer for database development and production support, schema changes, data migration and/or conversion scripts.
  3. Acts as the database performance and scaling expert by recommending and implementing database changes and monitoring techniques in development and production environments to ensure service level agreements and scaling objectives are achieved. (*)
    1. Develops and documents code using story cards with user stories and customer input
    2. Performs developer testing and tasking 
    3. Writes and executes automated ui tests, unit tests, integrations tests and provides additional documentation as needed
    4. Creates and implements defect fixes
    5. Attends and actively participates in iteration planning meetings, daily standups and monthly retrospectives

QUALIFICATIONS.

Required Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate (Bachelor) Degree in Computer Science, MIS or a related degree; 
  • 5-7 years General Information Technology experience
  • Minimum 7 years of hands-on specific work experience with Database Development and Administration in full life-cycle software development projects
  • Experience developing highly configurable web applications with significant size, scope and complexity is required.
  • Must understand complete SDLC.
  • Familiar with agile development methodologies and concepts
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment strongly desired.
  • 5-7 years advanced Microsoft SQL Server Database Development, Administration and Performance Tuning
  • 3-5 years advanced t-SQL scripting, programming and query tuning
  • Working knowledge of C# ASP.NET Web Services, JavaScript and XML / XSL / XPath or the strong desire and ability to learn

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work.  This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel.   Incumbent may travel to attend training from time to time, but is not expected to travel as a requirement of the job.

Work Environment. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Position is primarily stationary with the need to stand or sit 80% of the workday.

Manual dexterity: Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

Frequently must analyze, memorize, problem solve, read and perform simple to complex math.

May frequently move computer equipment (laptop computer) weighing less than 10 lbs.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds. 

Work Authorization. In compliance with Federal employment laws, MediQuant will verify the identity and employment authorization of each person hired. MediQuant participates in the Federal E-Verify program.

Security Clearance. Must be able to pass all security clearances mandated by various government contracts as well as any client hospital/healthcare security requirements.  Any employee working on government projects will be required to successfully pass a government background check and receive a Common Access Card (CAC).  Additionally, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen and will be subject to a Public Trust security background investigation and must meet requirements to obtain a Department of Defense (DOD) network account.
