Position Overview

As an AI Embedded Software Engineer at Axelera AI, you will develop and optimize software that enables seamless execution and validation of our custom AI accelerator chip. Working at the intersection of hardware and software, you will design bare-metal solutions for a specialized architecture, ensuring efficient communication and low-overhead integration with host systems.

This role involves close collaboration with hardware and customer teams to fine-tune workloads, enhance performance, and streamline deployment. You'll leverage your expertise in C, C++, Python, and automation tools, using industry-standard build systems and debugging utilities to push the boundaries of AI acceleration.

Key responsibilities:

  • Enable and optimize software functionality on various host machines for validating the execution of our custom AI accelerator chip.

  • Develop and maintain baremetal software for kernel execution for a hybrid specialized architecture with in-memory-computing blocks

  • Collaborate with Hardware and Customer teams to facilitate seamless workload execution and integration with different host environments.

  • Ensure efficient communication with low overheads for AI accelerator models

  • Work in C, C++, Python and scripting languages for automation.

  • Using build systems like Make, CMake, as well as GNU toolchains and debugging utilities.

Qualifications:

We’re looking for a profile that covers 70% of these professional experience items, in any combination:

  • Engineering degree in computer science or software engineering

  • 3+ years of experience – academic experience acceptable depending on projects

  • Hands-on experience working with various host machines (x86, ARM-based, or other architectures) and enabling software functionality on them.

  • Exposure to specialized semiconductors, particularly accelerators, GPUs, or custom AI chips.

  • Understanding of embedded systems architecture, including microprocessors, microcontrollers, and embedded operating systems

  • Experience with low-level programming, device drivers, or hardware/software integration.

  • Familiarity with system bring-up, debugging tools (gdb, JTAG, serial interfaces), and performance tuning.

  • Proficiency in Linux environments, including scripting, automation, and debugging system interactions.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice to have:

  • PCI-Express protocol experience and other communication protocols

  • Yocto experience and creating custom Linux distributions

  • Level Zero API, CUDA, OpenCL experience
