Director of Therapy

About the Role

As the Director of Therapy, you will set the strategic vision and drive operational excellence of our therapy services, overseeing a growing team of therapists and therapist supervisors. Collaborating closely across clinical leadership, you will shape clinical policies, guide strategic initiatives, and ensure the highest standards of pediatric mental health services. Your leadership will help maintain a culture of consistent clinical quality, strong team performance, collaboration, and accountability, ensuring that our mission to provide safe, effective, and evidence-based care is realized. This role requires a proactive leadership style with a proven track record of building high-performing teams, driving innovations, and delivering strong patient outcomes. 

Responsibilities: 

As Director of Therapy you will:

Lead with vision & inspire excellence:

• Collaborate with senior leadership, including the SVP of Clinical Operations, Chief Clinical Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director, and Senior Director of Coaching to define and execute the strategic direction of high-quality, team-based clinical care.
• Recruit, hire, mentor, and reinforce role expectations across a team of high-performing therapist supervisors and therapists, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and accountability. Conduct performance reviews, and address any performance issues as necessary.
• Delegate and coordinate responsibilities among Therapist Supervisors to ensure effective leadership and operations within the Therapy team.
• Develop and implement policies, protocols, and quality assurance processes to ensure the consistent delivery of safe, effective, and innovative care. Participate in quality improvement initiatives. 
• Champion the organization’s mission and values, cultivating an environment where clinical and operational excellence thrive.

Ensure exceptional patient care: 

• Ensure that clinical care is aligned with ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements and best practices with regard to risk management, implementing policies and procedures that promote patient safety and compliance
• Offer expert case consultation to therapists and supervisors, ensuring adherence to clinical standards, evidence-based practices, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Evolve and enhance the therapist oversight approach to ensure consistency in the quality of care and patient and caregiver experience as the organization scales, leveraging data-driven insights, best practices, and feedback loops to support clinical excellence and provider development. 

Foster operational excellence:

• In consultation with the SVP of Clinical Operations, oversee the therapy budget and staffing model, aligning resources with organizational goals and ensuring financial sustainability.
• Own and monitor therapist performance metrics to deliver on the Therapy team goals, collaborating with the data & analytics team to track provider and supervisor outcomes, using data to inform decisions. Provide coaching and support to ensure the highest standards of care and professional growth.
• Lead clinical team meetings to promote collaboration, education, and continuous improvement.

Drive strategic growth & innovation: 

• Track and address provider experience metrics across engagement, satisfaction, coordination, admin time efficiency, and burnout to ensure retention and inform strategic planning. 
• Partner with technology and product teams to identify and prioritize needs for efficiency and automation to drive provider engagement and patient/family experience.
• Partner with leadership to identify opportunities for service expansion and implement scalable care models that meet the needs of diverse populations.
• Acquire and maintain state licenses (with administrative and financial support) to enable the organization to expand its reach.
• Actively participate in cross-functional initiatives, including care delivery innovation and product development, to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.

What You Need to Succeed in the Role

• Experience managing and overseeing large behavioral health teams providing evidence-based care in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Commitment to compassionate, thoughtful, strengths-based treatment. 
• Proven success in strategic leadership and team development, including a track record of managing team performance through data-driven competency assessments.
• Preferred degree in counseling, social work, psychology, mental health, or area related to behavioral health care with a demonstrated strong understanding of mental health principles and practices. 
• The ideal candidate has experience and training in delivering evidence-based treatments (e.g., CBT, ACT, DBT) with a strong background in treating children and adolescents with anxiety and related disorders
• Strong ability to build and manage high-performing teams, championing a positive and collaborative culture. 
• Demonstrated success in identifying and solving complex problems, particularly in clinical or operational environments.
• Ability to set, prioritize, and manage multiple goals and teams simultaneously through a dynamic and ever-changing environment. 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data insights into strategic actions.
