Job description

A holding company of a large upmarket retailer in the decor and lifestyle space is looking for a reliable and skilled Bookkeeper. This role is a half-day position (preferably mornings only) and suited to a vibrant, energetic individual who can buckle down and efficiently get the necessary done. This role will be to manage the financial / accounting function for the smaller companies in the group.

This in-office role may require some online work (from home outside of your working hours) from time to time, mainly related to loading of payments for wages – not more than an hour remotely at the most.

Daily Tasks:

Capture of bank statement and allocation

Accounts receivable:

Overview of credit notes and attend to refunds for clients

Overview of allocation of payments

Accounts payable:

Capture purchase orders

Mark off deliveries & track orders

Allocate payments

Cash Handling:

Maintain Petty Cash box

Cash Reconciliation and cash float

Weekly Tasks:

Bank reconciliations

Payables weekly for all entities

Wages – all entities

Remittances

Weekend casual wage preparations for 2 entities

Monthly Tasks:

Payroll for 2-3 entities, PAYE/UIF/SDL is managed by external accountant but the candidate will be required to prepare all documentation.

VAT is managed by external accountant but the candidate will be required to prepare all documentation. Bi-monthly for all entities.

Preparation and review of management accounts for all entities

Other:

HR assistance

Leave records management

Liaising with Sage on queries

Requirements

You will need to be proficient in the following software:

Sage Evolution
Sage Online
Excel

This role directly interfaces with the owners, clients and an external accountant
Loyalty and commitment are crucial, so a solid tenure through one's employment history needs to be reflected
Fluent in Afrikaans is preferable
