What are your responsibilities?
The Controls Field Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of GE and non-GE controls systems.  The Controls Field Engineer is also responsible for the safety of all employees in the plant by ensuring that all electrical equipment is up to code and safe to use. The AP4 Controls Field Engineer will work closely with plant maintenance personnel, maintenance managers and field engineers to ensure that all controls related equipment is properly inspected, evaluated, maintained and repaired in a timely manner. This is a remote position.  However, you must be willing and able to travel frequently throughout the United States to customer locations.  

What will you do?
  • Extensive troubleshooting/repair/maintenance of Turning MKIV, MKV, MKVI, MKVIe control systems.
  • Troubleshooting/repair of Emerson Ovation and ABB control systems.
  • Act as site Owners Engineer Actively to manage controls activities on site during Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance and upgrades of industrial control systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals to determine the best course of action for repairs or installations.
  • Provide timely and accurate internal and external reports.
  • Provide expert consultation on complex projects.
  • Provide customers with technical direction and support on Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and TILS.
  • Ability to work alone on customer job sites.
  • Work with other AP4 departments to ensure that all controls work is completed safely and meets all code requirements.
  • Keep accurate records of all work performed, parts used, and time spent on each job.
  • Responding to emergency calls after hours is required.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing work demands.
  • Assist and support all lock out tag out activities (LOTO)
  • All work shall be performed in a safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient manner in accordance with accepted/required electrical practices and guidelines.
  • Extensive travel throughout the United States field assignments is required.
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.
  • Submit all reports, documentation, and expense reports following the company policy.

What do you need to qualify for this role?
  • Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • 15+ years of experience as a GE Controls FE in an industrial (power plant) setting is required.
  • Power plant experience with GE excitation systems and LCI’s.
  • Experience with Gas Turbine Driver Control Systems and Auxiliary Systems.
  • Experience in MKV, MVI, MKVIe control systems, commissioning experience preferred
  • Experience in MKI, MKII, MKIII and MKIV is not required, but preferred. 
  • MKV and MKVIE BOP experience preferred. 
  • Steam Turbine experience preferred. 
  • Ability to tune DLN1, DL2.0 and DLN 2.6 preferred. 
  • Strong customer focus.

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to learn new/other industrial control systems.
  • Responding to emergency calls after hours is required.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing work demands.
