Power BI Engineer at Sourcefit

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Power BI Engineer is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and operation of the Power BI interactive dashboards and reports within the Power BI environment at Diverzify. In addition, this role will collaborate with stakeholders to understand data needs, analyze datasets to uncover insights, validate data with source systems, and translate business requirements into technical specifications, primarily focusing on data visualization and analysis using Power BI tools. Also, this role must incorporate a solid business operational/financial perspective combined with strong Microsoft’s Power BI abilities to deliver value through an intuitive interface. The ideal candidate is an experienced, entrepreneurial, data wrangler who enjoys building analytics from the ground up. Also, the role will focus on improving the company’s business maturity in understanding how best to use our information and analytics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Data Acquisition and Transformation: Extract, transform, and load data from our Data Warehouse dimensional modeling into the Power BI Semantic Model for analysis within Power BI, while keeping the Semantic Model refresh process efficient and effective without errors

• Data Modeling: Create and maintain efficient data models in Power BI by defining relationships between tables, calculating measures, and ensuring data accuracy/completeness

• Dashboard/Report Design: Design visually appealing, intuitive, and interactive dashboards using Power BI features like bookmarks, filters, slicers, etc. and custom visualizations to present data insights effectively

• Report Development: Build comprehensive reports with efficient DAX measures, drill-down capabilities, and data storytelling elements to allow quick answers to specific business needs. If use does not meet expectations or declines, this role will work with stakeholders on enhancements to improve the value of data and the report

• Stakeholder/Team Collaboration: Work closely with business stakeholders and other BI team members to understand Diverzify’s data needs, gather/document requirements, and translate them into actionable insights through Power BI

• Data Analysis: Analyze datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies to assist our stakeholders for making excellent well-informed decisions

• Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize Power BI dashboards and reports for speed and scalability to ensure efficient data access

• Security Management: Implement and manage data security process within Power BI to control access to sensitive information

• Other Functions: Perform other functions as assigned

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree is desired

• High Proficiency in Power BI: Deep understanding of Power BI features, functionalities, and data modeling capabilities with 3+ years of experience independently developing Power BI models and solutions with minimal oversight

• DAX Programming: Ability to create DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) complex calculations and ensure appropriate sub-second responses within the report (3+ years)

• SQL Skills: Ability to write SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from the Data Warehouse to ensure accuracy and completeness of report data (3+ years)

• Business Acumen: Understanding of key business operational/financial processes and key performance indicators to effectively interpret data from CRM and ERP systems

• Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to collaborate efficiently and effectively with stakeholders and clearly explain data insights
