Job Title: Electrical Estimator

About the Role:

The Electrical Estimator plays a critical role in the success of our commercial, industrial, and civil construction projects. This position requires a deep understanding of the electrical trade, strong analytical skills, and commercial acumen to estimate project costs accurately. The Estimator will analyze project requirements, including specifications, drawings, and plans, to determine all factors impacting job costs, including labor, materials, equipment, time, and potential risks.

This role utilizes specialized software, including GroundPlan and simPRO, for estimating and scheduling. The Electrical Estimator will prepare detailed cost summaries and quotes for management review, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Analysis: Thoroughly review project documentation (specifications, drawings, plans) to define the scope of electrical work required.
  

• Cost Estimation: Develop accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for each project, considering:
  

  • Detailed material takeoffs.
    

  • Labor costs (including crew size and skill levels).
    

  • Equipment costs (including rentals and specialized tools).
    

  • Project duration and scheduling.
    

  • Overhead costs (including insurance, permits, and administrative expenses).
    

  • Profit margin.
    

• Software Proficiency: Utilize GroundPlan and simPRO software to estimate, schedule, and prepare quotes.
  

• Compliance: Ensure all estimates and work practices comply with Victorian & Australian electrical legislation, standards, and safety requirements.
  

• Subcontractor & Supplier Management: Communicate effectively with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing for materials, labor, and equipment. Source new suppliers as needed.
  

• Tender Preparation: Prepare and review tender submissions, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  

• Risk Assessment: Assess potential project risks and incorporate appropriate contingency plans into cost estimates.
  

• Communication: Clearly present cost estimates and project requirements to management and other stakeholders.
  

• Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, new technologies, and regulation changes.
  

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

• Relevant electrical trade qualifications and experience are essential.
  

• Demonstrable experience in electrical estimating, preferably in commercial and industrial construction.
  

• Strong understanding of electrical systems, materials, and installation methods.
  

• Proficiency in using estimating and scheduling software (experience with GroundPlan and simPRO is highly desirable).
  

• Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  

• Strong commercial acumen and understanding of project management principles.
  

• Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
  

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  

• High attention to detail and accuracy.
  

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
