ABOUT THE ROLE
The Algorand Foundation is seeking a Chief of Staff (COS) for its Chief Technology Officer. In this fast-paced, always-on role, the COS will act as the “eyes and ears” of the CTO across a range of silos, both internal and external. As such, the COS will have access to the CTO’s email, Slack account, and social media handles. In addition, as appropriate, the COS will represent the CTO to a range of internal and external stakeholders, accurately representing and effectively communicating the CTO’s views, expectations, and decisions. 

The COS will play a critical role in: improving the overall efficiency of the CTO office across all of its verticals, improving information-sharing across the Algorand Foundation, helping prepare the CTO for thought leadership and public appearances, and communicating actively and positively with the Algorand community. The essence of this no-ego role is to work genially and effectively across a range of stakeholders to help remove roadblocks and multiply the capacity of the CTO. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO / CORE RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Communications management: Monitor and Triage CTO inbox, replying or flagging for CTO as appropriate; monitor CTO office slack channels and alert CTO to items that need attention; manage socials and reply to Twitter DMs and mentions, as appropriate.
• Calendar management: Maintain a calendar so as to preserve time for the CTO to get things done.  Understand and prioritize events that the CTO does/does not need to attend.
• Departmental management: Work closely with all CTO direct reports across all work streams (attend weekly departmental meetings in the CTO’s stead as appropriate); manage and improve information flow across the broader Algorand Foundation organization.
• Product delivery: Work particularly closely with the head of product on all upcoming strategic product releases.
• Research and preparation: Help the CTO prepare for a range of public appearances, as necessary; conduct background research for CTO thought leadership; survey news and other information updates on areas of concern to the CTO, and bring interesting materials to his attention. 
• Risk management:  Immediately surface any concerns to the CTO across all channels; work actively to help mitigate risks, bottlenecks, and other potential issues.
• Brand ambassador: Execute and maintain brand identity through external and internal communications

KEY QUALITIES

• No ego. Ability to work well with a range of technical and non-technical people in a cooperative manner
• Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to cajole and persuade people to do things 
• Deeply organized and comfortable running processes
• Good judgment and ability to make decisions; ability to understand when to handle and when to escalate
• Comfortable figuring things out
• Obsessed with quality and attention to detail
• Deeply curious about technology - crypto/blockchain
• Good antennae for risk and for when things are starting to get off track or go wrong

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• 3+ years working in a professional software engineering environment, with a fundamental understanding of computer technologies, is required
• Knowledge of crypto and blockchain technology is strongly preferred; some experience with distributed systems is desirable
• Strong written, research, and presentation skills are a must
• Familiarity with applied cryptography is a plus
