Job Description:

GDIT is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to join our cybersecurity team. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience working with cloud-based systems, particularly Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and will be responsible for ensuring the security and compliance of hosted applications. This role requires a deep understanding of NIST 800-53 rev5, specifically risk management and the continuous monitoring of security and privacy controls across the system lifecycle.

The Information Security System Officer will work closely with various teams to ensure proper implementation, maintenance, and verification of security controls. Experience with Archer and familiarity with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) or Indian Health Services (IHS) regulations is a plus. The individual will also participate in Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) processes to assess the effectiveness of security controls and ensure compliance.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

System Security Ownership:

  • Serve as the primary security representative for assigned information systems, ensuring that security and compliance requirements are met throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of cloud-based systems, specifically hosted applications on Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure systems comply with applicable security frameworks, including NIST 800-53 rev5, and organizational security policies.
  • Perform security risk assessments, vulnerability management, and mitigation activities for systems under your ownership.

Security Control Implementation & Monitoring:

  • Implement and oversee the application of security controls in alignment with NIST 800-53 Rev5 and other regulatory standards.
  • Work with technical teams to ensure proper configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of security controls in cloud environments.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including IT, engineering, and operations, to integrate security best practices into system design, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Communicate security risks and control effectiveness to key stakeholders, including senior leadership.

Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V):

  • Participate in Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) activities to assess the effectiveness of implemented security controls.
  • Work with third-party assessors to support external audits and assessments.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Ensure proper documentation of security controls, risk assessments, and remediation actions.
  • Maintain up-to-date security authorization packages and other system documentation to support compliance reporting and audits.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Continuously assess and improve the security posture of assigned systems, identifying opportunities to enhance security controls and reduce risks.
  • Stay updated on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and regulatory changes, ensuring systems remain secure and compliant.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or years of equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in information security, with significant exposure to Risk Management Framework, cloud-based systems and IaaS platforms
  • Expertise in NIST 800-53 rev5 security and privacy controls, including deployment and monitoring of controls in cloud environments
  • Experience working with Archer or similar risk management platforms
  • Experience participating in Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) processes
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance
  • Ability to travel <25% of the year, if needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or other relevant cybersecurity-related certifications
  • Experience with reviewing and adhering to security concepts of operations, systems security plans, security control assessments, contingency plans, configuration management plans, incident response plans, vulnerability scanning, and/or vulnerability management plans
  • Experience working in regulated environments, particularly within IHS or similar healthcare environments or government sectors
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams to implement and maintain security controls
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex security topics to non-technical stakeholders

  • Internal mobility team dedicated to helping you build your skills and own your career
