Title: Data Engineer (P3)
Location: Remote Canada
Reports To: Director - Data Engineering
The Role:
J.D. Power is looking for a data engineer with excellent quantitative and analytical skills. Our ideal candidates are determined to use their skills to combine multiple data sources together to solve complex client questions around vehicle transactions, incentives, valuations, market readiness, and customer purchase decisions. You’ll work hands on with quantitative data to help create new capabilities, and to improve and maintain existing capabilities.
The Impact You Will Have in This Role:
We make data products that solve problems for the auto industry. Every data engineer will work on projects that go into production and directly impact new and existing products.
What You'll Be Doing in This Role:
- Daily immersion in automotive industry data
- Design, troubleshoot, and execute repeatable data processes, in which you’re finding bottlenecks and ways to become incrementally more efficient
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and understand data processing requirements, with consistent proactive demonstration of business acumen and market dynamics
- Implement fundamental data engineering concepts and best practices
- Proactively conduct own QA and flags where processes can and should be refined, with limited oversight
- Contribute meaningfully to new product development, on top of production, by executing independently to plans (and by influencing the plans themselves) for new features on existing products, and for net-new products or approaches
- Interdisciplinary work: you’ll interact with multiple teams across the firm to implement solutions and improve processes. This includes Customer Success, Product Development, Data Engineering, Data Science, AI Engineering, Data Visualization, etc.
Qualifications of this Role:
- Expertise in extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes with quantified efficiency and accuracy outcomes. Experience in bringing together data sets across multiple sources, with multiple dimensions and layers of complexity
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (Redshift, S3), Google Cloud (BigQuery) or Palantir
- Demonstrated exposure to (not expertise in) data analytics, statistical modeling/ML such as multivariate regression, logistic regression, time-series modeling, forecasting, and areas like machine learning and AI-driven data QA
- Fluency of database software: SQL required
- Fluency in programming languages: Python preferred
- Experience resolving data issues in creative and effective ways. Acumen and gut instincts to know when to say, “This doesn’t seem reasonable.”
- Independent professional who can take a vision and implement with limited instruction
- Bachelor’s degree (required), with a background in statistics, machine learning, computer science, or mathematics preferred
- An effective cross functional communicator in both written and verbal skills
- Ability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
- Resilient work ethic
- 5+ years of full-time professional experience in data engineering and quantitative analytics, contributing to business impact through data-driven solutions
