Team Lead - Sources/Data Platform

We're seeking an experienced technical manager to lead our Sources and Data Platform team, responsible for the development and operation of our high-scale data ingestion and processing infrastructure. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with excellent people management and strategic planning skills.

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and grow a team of data platform engineers, providing technical mentorship, career development, and performance management
  • Drive the technical vision and roadmap for our distributed data platform infrastructure
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align team objectives with overall business strategy
  • Ensure operational excellence of our data platform handling billions of daily events
  • Partner with other engineering managers and product leaders to deliver cross-functional initiatives
  • Drive architectural decisions and technical design reviews
  • Manage resource planning, capacity forecasting, and budget allocation
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence
  • Oversee integration strategies with external services and data sources
  • Lead incident response and management for critical platform issues

Requirements: 

  • 5+ years of hands-on technical experience in data platform engineering or distributed systems
  • 3+ years of people management experience, preferably leading data/platform teams
  • Strong background in modern data architecture patterns and distributed systems
  • Deep understanding of high-scale data processing technologies (Kafka, Spark, etc.)
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, Azure)
  • Track record of successfully delivering large-scale technical projects
  • Excellence in cross-functional communication and stakeholder management
  • Proven ability to recruit, retain, and develop engineering talent
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)

Nice to have:

  • Background in real-time data processing and streaming architectures
  • Knowledge of machine learning infrastructure and data science workflows
  • Experience with observability and monitoring at scale
  • Experience with budget management and vendor relationships
  • Knowledge of data governance and security best practices

Bonus points:

  • Previous experience transforming or modernizing legacy data platforms
  • Experience implementing DataOps practices
  • Background in specific domains (NLP, graph processing, time series analysis)
