Job description

The Company

Stears is a Pan African financial data company. For global funds investing in Africa, Stears is the data and insights provider that enables quick, accurate decisions during the investment process. Stears users get access to industry, company, transaction, and macro data as well as constantly updated reports by researchers. Unlike other providers, Stears goes beyond just data to provide insights and context based on knowledge of local markets and delivers it all in an easy-to-use data platform. You can find more info about Stears here.

We're searching for a revenue-generating machine – a highly motivated and results-oriented Head of Revenue to lead our sales and revenue growth strategies. You'll be the driving force behind expanding our customer base, building key partnerships, and establishing Stears as the go-to source for private capital investment intelligence in Africa.

The Role

Why it's Important: Across the globe, companies and investors are increasingly seeking to understand Africa's unique market dynamics and investment opportunities. This is where Stears comes in. Our mission is to empower private capital investment in Africa by delivering high-quality financial data, insights, and solutions that inform decision-making.

As the Head of Revenue, you will lead the charge in driving revenue growth and shaping our go-to-market strategy.  This role will take ownership of our revenue operations, including sales, marketing, customer success, and partnerships, ensuring a seamless integration of strategies that deliver measurable results. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Head of Revenue will be a critical member of our executive team, working closely with the Platform and Intelligence leads to align our offerings with market needs. You’ll help shape our go-to-market strategies, build a high-performing revenue organization, and ensure sustainable success as we scale.

Responsibilities

As the Head of Revenue, you will lead our revenue strategy and execution, ensuring Stears achieves and surpasses its growth targets. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Execute the go-to-market  (GTM) strategy for new customers & growth strategies for existing customers
  • Identify, pursue, and close deals with our customers: private equity firms, venture capitalists, impact investors, family offices. Crucially, this includes uncovering hidden opportunities where others see none, and creating demand where it doesn't yet exist.
  • Deeply understand our product as it evolves and effectively communicate its value proposition to potential customers.
  • Craft compelling use cases for our product that resonate with our ideal customers, even if they haven't yet recognized the need. Translate these use cases into tangible ROI and closed deals.
  • Monitor and grow the company’s revenue engine
  • Retain existing customers through strong customer relationships
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing revenue team to drive revenue growth
  • Forecast revenue generation and the strategies required to achieve them
  • Develop and communicate growth strategies with CEO and Division Leads
  • Partner with Platform (Engineering, Design and Product), Intelligence & Operations teams to align revenue efforts with customer needs and market demands.
  • Consistently conduct market research & track industry trends to identify and target existing and new markets
  • Create a pricing strategy to target markets and generate the highest return
  • Coordinate all business development, sales, marketing & customer-facing functions within the company
  • Unify processes to maximise the best customer experience

What You Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience as a sales leader driving revenue growth in a B2B financial data, fintech, or investment-focused company. Demonstrable experience in creating new markets or generating demand for innovative solutions is essential.
  • Deep understanding of private capital investment and the African economic landscape, with the ability to translate this knowledge into actionable revenue strategies.
  • A relentless drive to exceed targets and a fearless approach to closing deals.
  • Analytical and strategic mindset with the ability to develop and execute effective revenue strategies.
  • Proven ability to identify when the GTM strategy is not working and can pivot quickly
  • Demonstrated success in scaling revenue from startup to growth-stage company
  • Strong expertise in B2B sales, enterprise sales, and customer acquisition strategies.
  • A deep understanding of customer needs and the ability to identify and address their pain points.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Data-driven decision-making and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Expertise in developing strategic partnerships and navigating complex B2B sales cycles.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent the company effectively to stakeholders and clients.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced startup environment.
  • Strong network within the financial services and/or data technology sectors is a plus.
  • MBA or equivalent experience in business, sales, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
